Me again,
I noticed on the factory DVD, there are two folders labeled Grand 1 and Grand 2. They contain the same Yamaha Grand pianos. I loaded the grand from Grand 1 but couldn't load the grand from Grand 2 because the Sound Manager told me they were the same thing. Why are two folders named differently that contain the same voices? Thanks.

Re: Grand 1 vs. Grand 2 folders
Okay, I found this on the Nord Sound Library site:
Grand 1
The Studio Grand 1 is a great C7 Conservatory Grand but with a completely different character, compared to the Studio Grand 2. It has a lot more bite even when you play soft and the bass projection is a bit different compared to the Studio Grand 2. The recording was done with a close-up microphone positioning.
Grand 2
The Studio Grand 2 is a meticulously prepared C7 Conservatory Grand recorded with a close-up microphone positioning and custom modified pre-amps and audio interface. Many hours were spent adjusting this instrument and balancing the sound before the actual recording took place.
Our objective was to get a specific voice from this instrument. New strings were installed, the action was optimized and the hammers were prepared. The felt on the hammers were needled by our piano technician, in order to make the sonic response as expressive and dynamic as possible, from the very softest pp passages to a strong FF presence.
I'm surprised Nord made the error in not giving the files different names. I assume I need to copy them to my hard drive, rename them, and then upload them to my Electro 5? Perhaps Nord assumes I'll only pick one grand? That's a dumb assumption.

Re: Grand 1 vs. Grand 2 folders
Hi Lee,
I don't quite follow - the names of the original files from www.nordkeyboards.com are in fact different for the two pianos:
The files of Studio Grand 1 are called: "Studio Grand 1 YaC7 Lrg 5.3.npno" (and similar for the smaller sizes)
The files of Studio Grand 2: "Studio Grand 2 YaC7 Lrg 5.3.npno" (and similar for the smaller sizes)
So the Sound Manager program will certainly be able to distinguish them... It's quite some time ago that I had the Studio Grand 1 loaded (the Studio Grand 2 has always been loaded in my Electros) but I can't recall a problem in handling the two at the same time...

Hi Maurus
I was attempting to load them from the DVD I received with my Electro 5. The Sound Manager wouldn't let me do it. I'm on my way out to a gig in a minute or so, but will check tomorrow. Thanks for chiming in.

Hi Lee,
I would recommend you to use the files available for download from the official Nord Keyboards website. These are the same as the ones in your DVD but the ones in the website could have been somewhat updated.

Thanks Gustavo. I wondered that too. Often the materials you receive at the point of sale are out of date. Manuals are a good example. The online version is your best bet for searching, and it has likely been updated since the keyboard was built. I'll download the voices I want.
