Nord Piano 2, no MIDI output

Postby stephane_rolland » 13 Oct 2016, 17:13

Hi

I had never used the midi ports of my Nord Piano 2.

Now that I want to record something, it seems the midi LED is never blinking when I play notes.
I have tried to change Midi parameters like Local On/Off, or Midi channel, but it has no effect, the MIDI card I'm using receives nothing.
I have also switched the cables In and Out, but that doesn't change anything. The Midi LED of the Nord Piano never blinks.

Is there a parameter to set so as to have Nord Piano outputing MIDI data ?
Or should I consider that my Nord Piano may have a defect ?

Hi !

The midi LED blinks when your NP2 receives a midi-in signal, that is if you are playing your NP2 with a external midi keyboard.

To the best of my memory it does not blink when sending midi signal out.

Do you want to record the midi signal or the piano sound????

Witch recording device are you using????

Make sure you have the MIDI channels matching between the NP2 and your external device. Are you using some kind of adaptor from NP2 MIDI out to your external device? Just make sure you are sending OUT from the NP2 to IN of your device. The LED on the NP2 is only to show incoming MIDI and not outgoing.

As stated above, the MIDI light on your Nord is designed to blink in response to INCOMING midi data, not outgoing.

It is not possible to turn off outgoing midi data stream. The instrument will ALWAYS output midi data when playing notes, turning knobs, pushing buttons, etc. The solution to your problem will be found in the MIDI MENU. What settings are you using? How is your Nord connected to your computer? The Nord effectively has 32 channels of midi output: Midi 1-16 and USB 1-16. If you are connected via traditional 5-pin DIN and your Midi Menu setting is set to a USB channel, no midi data will reach your computer. If you are connected via USB and your Midi Menu setting is set to a Midi channel, no midi data will reach your computer.

When you have correctly set your midi channel to agree with your type of cable connection, this problem will be solved.

Bless, Pablo
