Stage 2EX Not saving settings in a program. Help!! :(
Hey Guys,
I mentioned this below in another post, that the Nord was 'forgetting' which model of instrument I'm on, after scrolling through the sounds within a program. But it seems to be taking things to the next level now. It's simply not saving/storing my selected sounds within a program which is very bad!
Here's what's happening:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGrul5pNhJA
I know people are saying, why do I want to scroll through the sounds this way in a live show and not just save the program with the first sound I want to be on for practical reasons... but for me that isn't practical. As I like to have my default effects/amps/eq parameters and reverbs set up in just a single 'piano' program, so if I do want to change piano sounds for a gig, that requires it last minute without having to start storing programs, I know everything else is still the same, and it's just the piano source that is sounding different. Plus, it's much quicker to simply tap one button to move up from 'Grand' to 'Upright' than scrolling through banks/pages to find the program I want... I simply want each 'model' (section in the piano section) to STORE/REMEMBER my settings as it should.
I've done a restore to factory settings and re-loaded my programs back in, but this is still happening, and it's never happened to me before on my Nord Piano 2, or when playing on house Stage 2's.
I would appreciate any help with this, as it's getting really frustrating on shows.
All the best,
James

To me, this seems like a video I'd send to Nord. That kind of behavior seems like a software bug, as my Stage 2 doesn't act like that.

That does seem like a bug on your instrument. I will try to duplicate what you're showing, but when I was testing this out the other day I am pretty sure I did not see that behavior.
One potential workaround for you in the meantime - have you thought about saving a different piano sound in each slot, so then you at least can access two different sounds with the click of one button, reliably? I do that quite a bit on my NS2.

Re: Stage 2EX Not saving settings in a program. Help!! :(
Good tip about using two slots to quickly go between two different pianos but guess what... It's even "forgetting" which piano was selected when 'going back' to Slot A, after changing slots. Mental!! I'm going to have to send an email to Nord. Really hope this is seen as an issue worthy of fixing, as it's quite a bummer for live situations.

IMPORTANT NOTICE OF EDIT: I have reconsidered this and reversed my opinion below. This post was a (hopefully temporary) bout of bad judgment.
There are LOTS of these instruments out on the street and this behavior is not being reported by others. For this reason, it is fairly reasonable to assume that this cannot possibly be a software bug...everyone is running the same software. This leads to conclusion that it must be a hardware thing. Where are you located?
Bless, Pablo

I'm located in the UK, North East. That's very interesting that you think it might be a hardware based thing. I also thought it was weird, to be the only one experiencing it when everyone is on the same software as you say. What sort of a hardware issue could something like this be!? It seems very odd yet specific to have this kind of trouble with the cause being hardware? If it was something to do with dodgy internal memory, you'd think it would either not save/write programs at all, rather than being picky about what it 'forgets'!
Do you think the best thing to do, would be to contact the company I purchased it from and show them the video, rather than Nord directly? ... I just really don't want to be without the keyboard for a long period of time as I rely on it for my work, so it's always a tricky one when these shops want the unit back!
Thanks Mr. Pablo!

Re: Stage 2EX Not saving settings in a program. Help!! :(
Actually, I'll revise my initial opinion: while I agree that this behavior is very curious, it is also more than a little obscure and it may well be that few users out there engage in this kind of behavior on their instruments or would be paying enough attention to notice on those rare occasions in which they did navigate the front panel this way.
Also, I very much agree that it would be very odd for hardware issue to cause such a vague sort of data issue and still write everything else correctly. Looking back on my prior post, I can only ascribe it to a "brain fart" as they say. At this moment, I have to say more inclined to think software issue.
Perhaps best to reserve judgment pending what others may have to say about their NS2EX's behavior. You can contact your dealer or the UK distributor, but perhaps best to file a tech support request on the Nord website. Include the vid link in the report. It will be read by Nord personnel in Stockholm and auto-forwarded to UK distributor for their attention.

Re: Stage 2EX Not saving settings in a program. Help!! :(
Hey Pablo and James,
I just tried some quick tests with my NS2 88. And it seems to happen that the selection of another piano/epiano/grand has been changed to a different model after saving and moving to a different program and back. Note: I had to turn "pending load" of in order to scroll faster through the programs.
I really never noticed, because I just use the piano model I've selected and saved.
And I don't have an issue with this either...

Re: Stage 2EX Not saving settings in a program. Help!! :(
Thanks for this you two!
Very interesting that we've found someone else who has this issue ^ But it doesn't make sense, as I know other Stage 2 and 2EX users that are NOT having this issue! And the fact the Nord Piano 2 doesn't do this, shows it 'can' remember the settings.
I can see why people who simply save all of their sounds in one program and then don't wish to edit on the fly have no issue with it, but I hope that won't take away from the fact it shouldn't be happening, as I definitely do have an issue. I could maybe live with it if I could have two different pianos in Slot A and B, but the fact it's even 'forgetting' which piano model I was using when going back to slot A after going to B, is very unusable! And also not to mention that it's not simply returning to model '1' , as we see in my video, it's completely random, jumping between 3 and 5!
I really hope we can get to the bottom of this eventually

I bumped into this post by accident, out of pure curiosity did you sort this out in the end?
