Yes, the room acoustic is partially a problem, definitely when it comes to acoustic piano samples. A real piano give a natural experience by it´s body, mecanical noices and so on. It´s hard to hit this experience with a sample based piano. But there will be some simple solutions, that gives you a much better experience with your NP2 in your living room. Forget foaming on the walls. First of all you will deal with your boss (wife), if you have one, for a little modification of the room decor. You need some thick carpets in the room, one under your piano. A Bookshelf is a good acoustic damper. Your couch is another good damper. Place the piano at a wall, there you have a window section on the wall behind you when you playing if you can. The glass light reflect the sound from the speakers for a wider sound field. Dont place the piano directly at the wall, leave at least 50 cm space. Place the speakers in a triangle from there you sit just beside the piano sides, along the wall, in the same height as the piano, not above (very important for the experience). If you have the speakers in the same height, you believe the sound comes from inside the piano body, just as a original acoustic piano. The speakers is a nearfield type. It´s important that the triangle is in the correct size. For the 8030´s you will have a distance about 1,2 m from your ears and for the 8040´s about 1,8 m. If you will use a sub, place it on the floor beside you, not in a corner. You can use a simple mixer with 2 mono panorable channels, NP2´s output 1 to the left channel and panorate it all the way to the left, and NP2´s output 2 to the right channel and panorate it all the way to the right. It will be a big difference in stereo field, compared to if you connect the NP2´s outputs directly to the speakers. Don´t forget to use the Nord triple pedal, there you have the simulation of the mechanical noices for an even better experience. Try this and you have a very good piano sound in your living room. (the bigger size on the 8040 will not compensate the acoustic issue) Hope it helps for your experience.
