rotary stop only works on slow?
When I put the rotary speaker on stop, it only stops when I do it from the slow speed. When it's on the fast speed and I press stop, I don't hear it stop. Is this the way it's supposed to work? Or am I not hearing it? I'd really love it to be fast, then touch stop and have it stop, then touch fast and have it speed up again. Or is my NE5D not working the way it's supposed to?

I believe it is working correctly. It can only stop from the slow speed...not from the fast.

Re: rotary stop only works on slow?
From NE5 manual:
the ROTARY SPEED switch of the organ section toggles between FAST and SLOW rotation speeds, and in STOP MODE between fast or stopped rotors.
So, to recap, you can work in 2 modes:
A) Normal mode = the switch toggles between slow/fast
B) Stop mode = the switch toggles between stop/fast
PS: also the NordStage Rotary works the same.

Re: rotary stop only works on slow?
Thank you for your replies. It's helpful. I guess I read the manual text differently. It's a little obscure. I now understand what it's saying. So if I press stop and slow, the rotor is stopped. If I then press fast with the stop button on, it speeds up to fast. To stop it, I then press slow again. Right?

Yes. Also, you may wish to pay attention to the chorus/vibrato settings. Stop may not sound like anything has stopped if you have heavy vibrato engaged.

Yeah, I got that with the chorus and vibrato. I've been playing with those and the percussion, trying to decide what I like. I had those settings with my old NE2 but now that the organ sound is so much more *there* those settings make a bigger, more audible difference.

Re: rotary stop only works on slow?
I heard that Gregg Rolie switched frequently between stop and fast mode as part of his playing style in Santana tunes. So good that it is doable on E5. I use it in some progs by footswitch and it turns out to be tricky since it requires some idea where to put it .. like with all effects
