Nord Lead 4 - impulse morph gradual change

Postby Melien » 09 Jul 2016, 11:31

Hi guys - proud owner of NL4 here!

I have just watched this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkuT7TTFpbs and I have a couple of questions, hopefully someone can answer :)

1. At 4.50 the presenter hits one impulse morph button and the pitch of the pad playing drops...gradually! how is this possible? I thought impulse morphs change the sound in an instant...the manual doesn't give any insight on this either.

2. At around 1:30-1.40 the camera zooms in on the effects section and the effects are different than my unit: In the video the effects are Crush, Drive 1 and 2 and Talk 1,2 and 3. On my unit the effects are Crush, Compr, Drive, Talk 1 & 2 and Comb.

Please note the video appears to present a prototype unit so things might have changed since then; this might answer both questions, I would just like some thoughts & feedback.

This is achieved by using the Mod Envelope, assigned to the pitch of both oscillators. The Impulse Morph is assigned to the amount (negative) and the AR setting and Imp Sync are both on.

The AR setting on the Mod Envelope ensures that the pitch stays down for as long as you hold the Imp Morph button down. Also set the Attack to be slow and Dec/Rel to minimum (fast) on the Mod Envelope.

You could also use LFO2 (with imp sync on) for this, but the pitch would spring up again as the LFO repeats.

I hope this makes sense. :)

Oh. Right! I feel so silly now. Basically the IM button "turns on" the ModEnv as the initial amount is 0. That's really fun, I never thought of doing that. Which means using the ModEnv and the IM button can do gradual changes to the sound when so desired. Thank you so much!
