Thanks all. I would never have thought of the compressor or the ring modulator as tools that could help me, so I think I'm due some experimentation there.

A few people make the point that it's often difficult to get a handle on the sound in your head - experimentation and surprise is half the fun is it not?

I spent more than 10 years gigging the original NE, to the point it feels like an extension of my brain. The 5 is a far more complex beast, and I'm very much on the lower slopes...

I do not have an Electro, but in my Nord Stage, I just map Ring Modulation AND a little bit of VIBE to the mod wheel. I find out what is the range that sounds pleasant and then just assign that range to the modwheel, independently for each.

In my setup, I dial it in to my taste every time!
