Problem on A1R

Postby Etienne » 07 Jan 2016, 01:29

Hello all
This is my first post, but I read the forum since 2014.
My wife play with a Nord Piano 2 and now a Nord lead A1R, and love it.
But today, when she plug the A1R and power on, all the lights are on, and stay on.
After power off, unplug, plug, power on, same behavior.
The unit has 2 months...
I live in French Guiana (north of South America), and the unit was bought to Thomann, Germany, so it will not be easy to send it for testing or repair.
Any help appreciated.

Sorry for my approximate English..

Thanks,

Etienne

Hi Etienne,

Sorry that you are having this problem with the A1R, but it does seem that perhaps there is a hardware problem which will require the attentions of a competent Nord tech to solve. Your first best solution will be to go to Thomann, or to Nord directly via their website.

You are fortunate that this is a small, compact rack unit and more friendly for packing and shipping than a whole keyboard instrument (though it will still be expensive to ship).

Please let us know how this works out for you.

Bless,

Pablo

Thanks Pablo,

I'll do this.
I expected your answer but I've had hope there was a reset of some sort...

I'll let you know what will happen.

Actually Thomann use to pay the return fee, at least from france metropol.

bon courage!

Hello

I did some tests yesterday, via Skype, with my wife.
The unit is ok, but only for a moment, and the bug appear.
At the beginning, thinking of possible interference with other apparatus.
Unplug one by one each thing electrically connected (crt tv, decoder for tv, fan, amp, master keyboard, all), change wall socket for a earth grounded one.
At last so remain the A1R, without any cable plugged, except power supply cable, and the bug appear again. After 5 minutes at the beginning, 20 secondes after 10 or more trials.
So I think about temperature.
I put the fan blowing air right on it, and no bug, even after 6 hours.
In Brasil, it's pretty hot these days.
The room is air conditioned, but I think the temperature is 25-26 degrees celcius.
What do you think?
Maybe a faulty component in the PSU (voltage regulator?) ?

ALL Nord instruments are tested while connected to an umbilical spitting out insane amounts of continuous midi data for a period of 48 hours in their factory sauna at 40 degrees celsius.

It is really rather useless to try to pinpoint diagnose a component-level hardware fault sight unseen long distance, especially in the absence of any video or audio file evidence on which to base an opinion. And even if some very narrowly specific symptom were to allow this kind of long distance diagnosis, it is not clear that your wife, whether in French Guiana or Brasil or anywhere else, is going to open up an instrument which is under warranty and attack it with a soldering iron.

There will be no substitute for the attentions of an experienced and qualified electronics tech.
