Reducing width

Postby jim100 » 07 Jan 2016, 15:32

I wish to buy a Piano 2 and fit it into a specific gap at home which is about 15mm narrower than the total width given in the specifications.

Is there any way to reduce the width of the keyboard, i.e. can the red end caps be removed?

Yes you can remove the side panel of the keyboard, but it will be less charming :(

I would not recommend removing them, as you would be exposing the inside of the instrument. This would make it easy to accumulate dust or potentially damage it. I would suggest sourcing the thinnest wood you can find and replicating a pair of the end caps. Simply remove and trace them onto the thin wood, cut them to size, drill out the screw holes, sand/paint/stain how you want and then install those. I've done a similar project on a couple of other keyboards where I replaced boring black plastic or MDF with exotic wood end caps.

Many thanks both for the swift replies!
That's great to know. Yes I agree ericL I'd definitely be replacing them with thinner versions. It's actually going to be fitted inside an old piano, so the lovely red panels won't be visible anyhow.

Can anyone tell me the thickness of the end piece in mm please?

I measure 17 mm at the front and rear of the panels, and 20 mm at the center. It is not an even thickness throughout. Also, these measurements do not include the part that slips into the body of the keyboard, only up to the edge of the body.

Hope this helps......by the way, I measured my NP2.
