USB communication is unreliable on my Nord Piano 1

Postby michael_C1 » 25 Jun 2015, 20:28

Recently, I've been using the USB MIDI port on my Nord Piano 1 extensively, and I've found that periodically communication is lost with my computer. It's just gone. The Nord Piano no longer shows up as a device in my recording programs. The only way to get communication again is to restart the Nord and then the other program(s).

I've tried different USB cables, different USB ports, and disabling 'USB selective suspend' settings in Windows 7 without success.

Then I found that one of the improvements of the new Stage 2 update v2.10 (along with a soft velocity curve that many of us would really appreciate on the NP1(hint, hint)) is as follows: "Improved reliability of USB MIDI and USB sleep/resume behaviour".

So unless I'm missing something, there appear to be some reliability issues with MIDI over USB on the Nord Piano 1 also. it would be nice if this could be fixed AND the soft velocity curve was made available to us Nord Piano 1 owners as an update.

Presently on gigs, I'm finding it necessary to use the standard MIDI DIN output/inputs and a USB adapter so that the connection is reliable. That's pretty frustrating, and it really shouldn't be necessary because MIDI over USB was meant to make computer hookup more efficient and easier.

C'mon Bluesbaba...why insert this off-topic complaint here in this thread? That's kinda weird, too.

Time will tell whether new OS releases port the new velocity curves of the NS2 to other instruments....

Obviously, many Nord users would really appreciate that update!

Pablo, since three out of four of the Nord models with MIDI over USB (before the Electro 5) have received updates to make MIDI over USB more reliable- namely the Electro 4, the Stage 2, and the Piano 2- do you know if Clavia has plans to update the Nord Piano 1 in this regard?
