New user. Need harp with pad.

Postby morganpierce007 » 12 Feb 2015, 14:05

Hey
I am a new user to the Nord products. Just got a NP2 hp and wondered if there is anyway of getting a Harp sound with a pad/string to accompany it.
I also wanted to add a new piano so I made some room and just substituted my new piano with existing one but the old name still shows on the NP, why is this?

Thanks huys. Love this new board.

Welcome!
You can load a harp sound into the sample synth - and there is a Harp available on the Nord site here:
http://www.nordkeyboards.com/sound-libraries/nord-sample-library/guitarbass/acoustic-guitars

(You need to use the Nord Sound Manager software to transfer it over)

Then you can turn both the Sample Synth and the Piano on simultaneously and get the effect you want.

Thanks for that. I had a look at these sounds but i don't need a harp with piano I need one with strings/synth/pad to beef up the sound a bit. I understand that you can only mix piano with the sample section which is why I'm wondering if there has been a sample created which incorporates harp with layered strings. Sorry for the confussion.

Ah. misunderstood.
I can think of only 4 ways you can acheive this:
1. Get hold of a multi-timbral keyboard/rack and plug it in to your NP2 via MIDI, then layer away to your heart's content.
2. Get someone to create a multi-sample of the instrument mix you are looking for.
3. Trade your NP2 in for a NS2, which can play 2 samples in addition to your piano (plus organs)
4. Like option 1, but plug in an iPad or a laptop instead and use software (e.g. Kontakt)

The trouble is with option 2, is that you have little to no control over the mix and expression and the results are likely to be not to your liking...
I'd seriously look into option 1: get a module such as a Roland Integra, Yamaha Motif if you have the $ or at the cheaper end, a used Ensoniq Proteus 2000 or something like that.
Cue more suggestions for gear to flow into this thread...

It might be cool for Nord to create a multi-sample of a harp....much like a piano sample.....then add it to the piano library. The triple pedal could be implemented as well.

Just a thought.....

Would be nice. The problem is there is no logical UI to access such a sample - the least weird place for it to be would be in the harpsichord group I guess.
There are a bunch of instruments that could benefit from multilayered samples, but my guess is that any new samples Clavia provide won't deviate too much from the 'piano' category :-(

actually, now that you mention, one of those "LUTE" harpsichords just might take your ears where they want to go...I'm quite fond of one of them, but can't recall whether it's the French or Italian one (short-term memory loss begins to set in...)
