Breath controller...

Postby neolithic » 03 Feb 2015, 17:49

I think someone posted a video the other day where the guy on the keys was using a breath controller...
Firstly - can I use one with the NS2? - presumably it goes in where you'd normally plug an expression pedal? (My old DX (RIP) had a dedicated socket for breath ctrl but I never used it...)
Anyway, I wanted to try it with a my new sax patch - maybe map it to Amp or filter env and see what happens.
And now for something completely different...

Those new ones are USB (so you need a computer too), but for the Yamaha one, it may be possible to use a simple circuit as suggested in a Kurzweil manual:
See this post:

Although I have a Yamaha BC and I am very tempted, I have not tried that circuit to control the Expression Pedal input in the NS2.

Yes, you are right. The BC outputs a voltage, and the EXP pedal is passive, so the kbd provides the voltage that the pedal then changes with the pot (I think there is a 3V current betwen the shield and one of the connectors?). I think it might be possible to work something out with the BC, but I am not too keen on making experiments with an NS2...

This is the safer but not cheaper solution.

Thanks guys. I will probably abandon the idea if it's not straightforward. I'll try and use aftertouch as best I can. Much appreciated.
