Nord Stage 2, Fazoli XL, and a pair of QSC K10s

Postby AlQuinn » 03 Oct 2014, 15:42

Here's a video of me and my rig a few months ago. I'm using the Fazoli piano (probably XL, but definitely no less than L) on my Stage 2 with a pair of QSC K10's. I had the treble on Stage 2 EQ turned up a little which, upon hearing the video, I think was a mistake. Not sure if you can see the second K10 to my right as it might be out of the video camera's view, but it's there helping to provide a really nice stereo image. It was recorded with a ZOOM Q3HD so it's a pretty accurate representation of the sound. We were performing as part of a concert series called Jazz on the Vine which takes place each winter on the north fork of Long Island, New York at the wineries. Hope you enjoy it!

FYI, I recently sold my K10s because, to my ear, they weren't doing the Nord justice (I.e., sounded too electric for me and got boxey sounding at louder volumes). I bought a pair of RCF TT08A's on the recommendation of Dave Ferris. They sound great at home -- more clear then the K10s and no degradation of audio quality at louder volumes. My first gig with the pair of TT08A's is next weekend. I hope and expect this will be the end of my amplification quest for awhile.

  veeeeery nice performance!

I fully agree that the quality of the speakers can really make a difference in amplifying the NS, they must sound clear and as much as possible "acoustic"; I use a SR technology MON-x (now discontinued otherwise I'd buy the 2nd to go stereo) for stage monitoring just because of the quality of its sound, even if it is not so powerful (but enough) ;)

Your play superbly, and the Nord Stage 2 / QSC combo sounds professional.

Clearly, the TT08As would be a lot better for these kinds of gigs. Yes, $$$, but worth it. But the K10 did the job enough that 99% of audience probably wouldn't know the difference. Just you :)

Back when I was doing something similar (more singalong-type music in a bar), I had a Bose L1 Model II that was brilliant for these kinds of rooms and material. Couldn't use it much anywhere else, so ended up selling it.

Thanks for sharing!
I think I have gear issues ....
