Hi all,

Quick question re: sequencing in the Beat 2 app vs using the Nord Pad drum controller with the Nord Drum 2...

Not sure I understand what exactly is happening in the demo video for the Nord Drum 2 but, it appears that the drummer is looping a a beat he creates on the fly using the Nord Pad that he's then able to edit and build on in Beat 2. Via iRig MIDI and my iPad Mini, I am able to sequence beats using Beat 2 but as far as looping beats that I play fly on with the Nord Pad...no luck. It seems possible to do this given that the iRig MIDI recorder lets you record the MIDI information sent from the Nord Pad. Am I missing something here or is there in fact a way to simultaneously sequence beats created on the Pad and in Beat 2?

Hi Jason,

The ND2 indeed sends MIDI to your iPad, but the Nord Beat 2 app doesn't record incoming MIDI messages, - (if i'm not mistaken)
perhaps an idea for a next version to include a REC button

Thanks for the reply Albert. That would be a very useful function indeed. For now, I'll enjoy the sequencer sans Pad.

So to loop a pattern that you have played with the ND2/pad combo you need to connect it to Beat 2? Or does the ND2 have a built in looper/sequencer?

The Nord Drum 2 doesn't have a sequencer function onboard, it is a 6 channel drum 'brain'/sound module, the Nord Beat iPad app can accompany the Nord Drum2 to add the step sequencer function..

You can design and edit a drum loop/sequence in Nord Beat 2, which is a 6 track step-sequencer -that doesn't produce any sound itself-, but when you connect the Nord Drum 2 to the iPad using a MIDI interface, the Nord Drum 2 will act as a sound module.

When you connect triggers, pads, or the Nord Pad, to the Nord Drum2, you can play drum sounds live, the notes you play are sent from the MIDI output, which you can record in any DAW/sequencer. The Nord Beat 2 app however doesn't have a record function. If I'm not mistaken, the only way to design and edit a sequence in the NB2 app is in the step sequencer grid screen.

Of course, it is possible to play the Nord Drum live with pads (or in 'pad mode' of the app) along with whatever pattern is played with the app..

I tried to jump in on this thread a bit earlier, but fell asleep first!

Jason did correctly catch something from that vid -- it does appear that Jon-Eirik is recording sequences live, but this is another case where appearances are deceiving. He is using the REPEAT function there. Setting it to a value of 20 maximizes feedback. In actual effect it does work out to behaving like a looped sequence, but in reality it's the repeat function you are hearing.

Another fine example of the kinds of flexibility Nord designs allow...

Thanks Pablo! missed that part.. You are right!
Clever old trick, same as done with delay/loop stompboxes etc
However, with current (OS2.24) setting echo/repeat to 20 no longer results in endless repeat..
the echoes in current OS fade away a bit too quickly to be used as in the video
