80s Sawtooth / Van Halen Jump Patch

Postby boyd_rb » 24 Apr 2010, 07:00

I created this patch for Van Halen's "Jump" but it can be used with a variety of 80s songs that have that big sawtooth mix sound. I threw in some light organ in the upper key split and some light acoustic piano in the lower key split to fatten up the sound a bit. I also have the modulation wheel set so that it will fade the volume to zero at full deflection (for an easy way of fading out or trailing off). The attached .mp3 contains the intro and synth solo for "Jump".

Your Jump patch is really quite similar to the original Jupiter patch. Your performance ... very good.

Jump was most probably recorded with an Oberheim OB-X not a Jupiter. Almost certainly the synth on record's intro "1984" was an OB-X. Live Eddie Van Halen used an Oberheim OB-Xa.
