C2D with extra voices! Future??

Postby luts1976 » 13 Feb 2013, 09:33

I think the C2D and the SK2 are hopefully the start of a trend in light weight dual manual keyboards.
I'm hoping both Hammond and Nord will continue to innovate in this area.

If Hammond can create a dual manual organ with extra voices, Nord can definitely do this.
Hopefully Nord are finding a demand for a fully functioning portable B3 and will continue to develop it with even more usability.
I really hope Nord can integrate the SK2 idea with extra voices on the C2D.

With Nord's superior EP, Clav and Piano sounds, if they brought out their version of the SK2 it would be much more effective than the current SK2.

It seems it would be such a waste to not integrate the Electros functionality into the C2d.

The C2d idea would then become useful for many other players who would love 2 manuals and the ability to access great Organ, EP and Piano sounds across these manuals.

I guess Nord has already started with the Electro 4D .
Now just make it 2 manuals and add some extra sets of drawbars!!!

Nope, nada, negatory. The C2 and C2D are ORGANS. Every bit of microprocessor in them is devoted to running the organ engines. And with the C2D, I'm pretty sure (and honestly, how often am I wrong?) I think Nord has made the new B-3. The new standard organ. Right size, right features, right price, right weight. The C2D is the B3 of the 21st-and-a-half Century.

Of course, it does occur to me that the "pipe organ" is sample-based, not engine-based. Sure does seem like piano or string samples could be substituted for, or added to, the pipe organ samples. That does occur to me. I guess I was disappointed when I found out it couldn't be done from the Nord Sample Library or something.

There's a gazillion multi-purpose keyboards, but there's only one C2D (or C1 or C2) It's an organ. An SK2 is an SK1 with an extra keyboard, the C2D is a two manual organ.

No, as the young man wailed about Brittany Spears: 'Leave the C2D aloooooone!'

(Disclaimer: This is my tentative and timidly offered opinion, which I am prepared to change instantly if anybody even looks sideways at me.)

Let the c2d just be an organ!!!

If you want extra voices go for ns, ne or sk1/2.

I dont know any working keyboardist besides a full time hammond
player (let's be real here) who wouldnt enjoy the flexibility of pulling
up an ep/ clav or piano on a gig.

Yes, the C2d is a fully featured hammond.
We're living in 2013.
The C2d could remain as it is with the addition
of extra voices and the integrity of its organ persona
would go unchanged.

I think Hammond have tapped into this idea, but the
extra voices lack class and there is only one set of drawbars.

I will be purchasing the C2d soon but it will be used as
a pure hammond 50% of the time at best.

The other 50% of the time will be spent triggering pianos, clavs and eps
from a motif rack.

I would happily pay upto another $1000 to have those extra
sounds in one board.

For me, it's about technology making MORE things
possible.

The technology that has brought us a very portable hammond
is fantastic!!

No matter how many voices a C2D (or other hammond clone) has, it only has 61 note manuals. Will that be enough for piano-based playing?
Although, I gotta admit, I would not have been disappointed if some of the "pipe-organ" sample based programs could be switched out for other voices? I mean, if they're just samples, why not others? (This is something Pablo might know) Maybe an orchestral stop in which each LED (or physical) drawbar controls the volume of certain instruments?

And I know that every body assumes (I guess from all the lights and buttons) it makes all the sounds. They don't quite know what to make of the organ-only aspect of it, like you say, this is 2013.

Doesn't Roland make a two-manual (an Atelier Combo?) with a 76 note bottom, weighted, and an upper, with drawbars, Leslie sim? It is quite a bit bigger, and maybe in the 5-7K$ range?
