My NP88 key issue...

Postby PianoZac » 21 Apr 2011, 20:02

I've noticed that the keys from C2 down have become lighter, much more bouncy, and as a result are even noisier. Has anyone else had the problem? I think I could live with it if the keys from C2 above weren't as smooth and quiet as they are. I've contacted the Nord tech here in the states, but am waiting to hear back. Any ideas what this could be, or ideas of what to do?

Thanks so much.

I don't know much about the NP88 sorry. If they don't answer, you could always ask directly to Clavia: http://www.nordkeyboards.com/main.asp?t ... al_support

Best regards.

That is strange, hard to believe the keyboard is getting worn in that fast. Is it harder to play or is it just a matter of the noise.

It's not hard to play per se, but a little annoying. The action feels quite light, and is noticeably lighter than from above C2 on up. This should not be the case. There's no Nord tech in Nashville, but the board is still under warranty, so I may have to eat shipping and send it to the closest Nord tech shop, but I'd hate for them to find nothing and to have to eat the shipping for naught.

Hey Rick,

I talked to Nord's US tech guy, Pablo Mastadon. He's a awesome guy. Very nice, and very diligent about service. I explained to him the problem, and he said since it's under warranty Nord will either fix the keybed, or replace it at their cost. I may have to pay shipping one way to get the board to a certified Nord tech shop because surprisingly, there's not one here in town. How are your keys feeling Rick? You've had yours for a while, do they feel more bouncy and lighter than when you first purchased the unit?

I have not noticed a difference. It definitely is not the best feeling keyboard I've owned but again it does work well as whole. I just cannot imagine what in the action would or could have changed to make your keyboard change to such an extent.

Yeah I took it back to the store I bought it, set it up next to a new NP88, and had 2 store employees come play them back to back and they both acknowledged the problem. I called up Pablo Mastodon down at Pro Audio Electronics and he's having me send it to him direct rather than mess around with a different place. He's going to replace the key bed on it. I had actually broken my sustain pedal on my Nord Triple Pedal, and Pablo took care of that immediately. It's been replaced.

To sum it up, Nord's service is the best I've seen in almost any industry.
