Request: patch for Piece of the Rock by Mothers Finest

Postby mrtyros » 14 Apr 2011, 11:55

Hi there,
I'm a newbie on this forum, and a very proud owner of the Nord Stage 88 since one week.
Since I am new with the instrument i'm not yet very familiar with all the possibilities, especially the synth section.
In our band we play the song "Piece of the Rock" by Mothers Finest. I am trying to get this fat synth sound, but so far I haven't found the sound I'm looking for. Is there anyone out there who has tried this before ?

Thanks in advance,

Marc Linssen

Hi Marc,
Is this close enough?
It's a deceptively simple sound, but difficult to properly reproduce because MF keyboardist Mike Keck used a Minimoog for it on the recording, and live shows.
I'll hold off uploading the patch until I get a thumbs up.... Or down:(

Stage patch using dual synths 2 octaves apart.

This sound requires a synth patch to be layered with it's self, 1 an octave down, 1 an octave up for an overall separation of two octaves. The filter is wide open with plenty of buzzy harmonics.
The swimmy sound on the original recording actually sounds like a mutron bi-phase rather than the filter resonance "emphasis" being modulated by LFO.

In the stage patch I used the phas2 effect for this.

Putting this quick little patch together reminded me of what I miss from the Minimoog, and most real analog synths: That "take over the mix" huge-ness of sound.

I have edited my previous post to include the synth and stage patches.

Greatest thanks to Johannes for making this forum possible.
