Very interested in the Nord stage 2 HA88, I demoed one in the local music store today.
The classical grand piano was impressive soundwise, a lot better than my old Yamaha Clavinova, when playing a song softly.
But, I didn´t have to press the HA88 very hard to make the grand piano sound very sharp and harsh.
I was thinking, is there a setting or a way to tune this so that the HA88 responds a bit more moderately and forgiving before sounding that sharp and harsh?
Or is this depending on which sampled piano I play? I could only play the handful factory preset pianos, but I know there are a lot more in the Nord piano library that wasn´t available for me to try. Are these significantly better in this respect?
Thanks
Background: I´ve played real pianos since I was a kid and the last years a Yamaha Clavinova 560 (for midi/studio use) together with my real upright piano (in the living room). I have classical training. I would buy the Nord Stage 2 HA88 mainly for great piano sounds and playability (which no VST-piano has given me yet, and I´ve tried a few) and for its synth- and sample library. I would also use it as a keyboard controller for VST-synths.

The pianos are surely better than this?

Re: The pianos are surely better than this?
The piano section has a Dynamics button that's activated along with the shift key. There are three lights -- 1, 2, 3. If any of those were lit you were playing with enhanced dymanics, with 3 requiring the least amount of key velocity to trigger the highest velocity sample. If you have all of those off it's quite difficult to get that peak sound!
Being a display unit I suspect there's a reasonable chance this was the case.

Re: The pianos are surely better than this?
Thanks for the answer! I will try the piano again and make sure the Dynamics lights are off.

Re: The pianos are surely better than this?
I can't reach low volume without smooth sound when i press the keys very gently, as i could hear in some video demos... There is no tunable velocity curve or aftertouch...
Video example :

Cool tune too ^^
I also made a remark, that the wrong light on piano type is lit, Franck tells that he uses the bosendorfer, we can't put a grand piano on a Epiano type.

Re: The pianos are surely better than this?
Yes that is peculiar, it looks like E.Piano2 is lit, but the display says "Grand Imperial", though the name means nothing by itself. I'm wondering if there would be a way to make the panel look like this while using the keyboard to control the other Slot but I don't think it's possible. Strange!

Re: The pianos are surely better than this?
It is possible that the video and the were sound recorded separately and synced afterwards ("iMovie / Final Cut / ...).
As you said, the "program name" is only the "program name" that is dispayed : "Bosi Grand" could be displayed with NO piano light at all, and the organ section only ON
