Hello to all
Does someone know how many downloaded sounds from the Nord Library we can install without making free space on a NP2 with the default factory settings ? Yes I know sound samples don't have the same size, but I don't know the real limitation, memory and/or number of sounds possible at the same time in the Np2
Thanks a lot

Re: NP2 / how much memory available for new samples ?
I'm not sure what you're asking but in my Nord Piano, it has 500MB of total space for samples from the Nord Piano Library. I have 496MB used so far, so I have no more space for anything else. The Nord Piano 2 also has 500MB of total storage for samples from the NPL, plus an additional 128MB of space for samples from the Nord Sample Library. How many samples you can fit depends entirely on the samples chosen and the size of the samples chosen.

Re: NP2 / how much memory available for new samples ?
Hi Brooklyn (and Hi Zac!),
For clarification to Zac, the question does not relate to the Piano, but the Piano 2. As shown on the Nord website's description of the Piano 2, there are approx. 500MB for pianos and 128MB for samples on the NP2.
Bless,
Pablo

Re: NP2 / how much memory available for new samples ?
Yes but I think he's asking this:
When you first get your NP2, there are already some sounds installed by Clavia. How much free space do you have out of those 500MB to add sounds of your own?
Am I correct?
(Unfortunately I don't own the NP2, so I can't really answer your question...)

Re: NP2 / how much memory available for new samples ?
Thanks to all
Yes my question is only for the NP2, not the NP1
My goal is not to play with a computer (I've tested many vsti, heavy and not convenient to me) and it would be nice to load many of the sounds I like by one shot, but if we look at the size of piano and synths sounds available online, I think that 500+128MB is very short if the computation is simply to add the sounds sizes up to these limits, Clavia should have give more for the price It should have been great too to offer the possibility to remove factory sounds which I'm not interested to free space no ? I'm afraid to play sliding puzzle with the sounds if I choose the NP2

Re: NP2 / how much memory available for new samples ?
Of course you can delete all factory installed sounds from the NP's memory and install the ones you like best.
500 MB for .npno files, 128MP for .smp files (the formats are different).
Note that this is specialized (and expensive) high speed flash memory and hence different from both standard RAM and flash memory.

Do you happen to have an official source on that? I was always under the impression that it was just regular flash memory (RAM/SSD/What have you)...

Re: NP2 / how much memory available for new samples ?
I have heard Clavia uses an expensive RAM as well which enables for instant recall. Regardless, although by today's standards in storage 500MB seems small, the actual samples themselves are quite a bit larger than the samples inside competing Roland, Yamaha, Kawai, Korg, and Casio boards, and more important than the size themselves, they sound fantastic!

Re: NP2 / how much memory available for new samples ?
Well it doesn't have to be expensive RAM that enables for instant recall. On my computer, when I use Propellerhead's Reason, I load big samples and am able to switch between them seamlessly because they get loaded into my RAM (sometimes getting close to maxing out my 4GB) - which could be the same thing when the Nord Piano powers up and there's that progress bar showing up. That could be it loading the samples...
That's why I was asking for an official quote/source...
But yes, I do agree they sound fantastic!

No, it doesn't work like that. The samples are stored in Flash as people have said. To fit your scenario, the samples would still have to be stored somewhere in the Nord to be loaded into RAM in the first place, and the Nords do not have on-board disk drives. This also explains why loading new samples is relatively slow - it certainly would not take that long if you were transferring files to a hard drive! This is clearly stated on Nord's website, or you could drop them a line and ask them to confirm it - they seem like a friendly bunch.
