Nord C1 dismantling

Postby Smithy » 03 May 2012, 19:08

Hello.

I buy recently a Nord C1, with many scrapes on the Wood red side panels.

I think to make a restoration.

For dismantling is only enough unscrew the wood side panels?

Best regards

Smithy

Hello Smithy,
Welcome to the forums :welcome:

I believe that removal of the 6 screws on each side should be sufficient for the wood end panels

As much as I love that red wood on my C2, sometimes I wish it was flat black, crinkle black, or even molded plastic. As careful as I am (hard case, polish) it's still gonna get dinged, I know it! When the bassist or similiar comes near (to look at a lead sheet or chord-lyric chart on the organ) I can't help it, I throw my arms around the sides and hiss: "Watch the wood, goddamit! Watch the wood!" Belt buckles terrify me! Mike stands make me quake!
I insist the horn player put a rubber grommet around the bell of his horn, so we can have safe sax.

I pulled off the sides of my C2. Sanded the clear coat off, and primed them. Same with the top panel and backside. Then three super light and even coats with black spray paint, followed up with 2 coats of spray polyurethane ( 3 coats on the sides). It looks great, and has held up really well. Don't both doing this unless you add a protective clear coat on top because it'll scratch easily. I have a few chip and that red come shining through. Pretty soon, I'm going to sand it all down again and oak veneer the top and backside and have side panels in oak to match. Dark stain and many coats of poly. Can't wait...

Here's some shots of it in black.

Now that's an individualized instrument. Hmm, how about a hot pink Mellotron? No?
