Yamaha DX-7 Samples

Post by Hanon_CTS »

Hello All,
I'll share some DX-7 sounds with you.
I'm getting back to doing some more sampling.
I checked the Clavia Sample Library, and the forum's to make sure that there's no repeats.
These were re-sampled from a Yamaha PLG150-DX board in a Motif Rack.

So, you're having a week off, Hanon? Nice, thanks. Hey, maybe it's already discussed here, but what about rights on sounds? Does Yamaha not have the creative rights on these sounds?

Good question! It is not trivial and not 100% clear AFAIK. Check the forum rule #6 for what we came up with as a rule of thumb. While most commercial VSTi's explicitly disallow resampling in their licenses/terms, Hardware Instruments such as the DX7 are most likely less problematic (I have not yet seen a license coming with a hardware keyboard disallowing resampling).

Ok, thanks, didn't read the rules yet. Hope I didn't break one until now :)

The audio output of a hardware instrument may be freely used for any purpose commercial, or not.

It would sure put a damper on instrument sales if you had to pay royalties for the sound that it produced.
The factory presets may be freely shared as digital files as well, as long as they are identified as such, and not plagerized, and/ or offered for sale.

I hereby grant usage of my samples for the following purpose:
To be used exclusively in Clavia instruments for the performance and/ or recording of audio, commercial, or not.
They may not be sold as part of a samples compilation.

Cheers, Hanon
