Of course they won't say anything to public as long as they haven't officially released the new replacing model.
In this case, let's assume that they have a new "NP2" waiting somewhere there. Now it's wise to keep this secret and hope that all those music shops will sell out their supplies. Because when they release "NP2", older model will be worth 70% its earlier price. And if those music shops still have NPs when Clavia releases "NP2" those music shops will suffer from this. So the main idea is to make US (customers) to pay this sudden drop of value. This is the business logic.
In local level those music shop dealers won't tell you that "hey, don't pay this prize because in next NAMM they release a new model which will make your instruments value sink".
Of course I am speculating. Maybe it's just that NP hasn't sold like it was hoped and some of those music shops decided have a break with that model. Stranglely similarly Thomann took out almost all of their Arturia products. This makes me puzzled as I am a Origin owner who would really like this product to be manufactured and developed further...

Re: NP88 discontinued ?
The bottom line for me is that the NP88 is working fine as it is for what I do. The action could be heavier but that's not going to make me sell what I have to upgrade unless there is a world of difference.
In any case I'll be at NAMM Thursday, so I'll see first hand what's up with it.

Re: NP88 discontinued ?
Very much same here: action could be more piano-like but mostly I am quite satisfied with it. On the other hand, I and other users here have pointed some improvements which could make it even more powerful. Maybe Clavia has read those ideas and have done some improvements, who knows... Anyway this makes life more interesting. I am waiting NAMM too to see what they all (Clavia, Korg, Roland, Yamaha etc.) have invented to make us think to buy or not to buy.

Re: NP88 discontinued ?
I would hate to see a new model already. What I would like is some new pianos.

We should all be careful not to feed the rumor mill.
Clavia is very deliberate about how they release information.
I can't imagine Clavia telling distributors that a product is discontinued before they're ready for that information to be made public.
I also can't imagine there being a new Nord piano so soon after the original's release.{I did not see that coming}
Why give us a sneak peak of the C2D and Norddrum, but nothing about a piano.
I guess we'll know for sure in a couple more days.
Cheers, hanon

Something you can see on that picture
On my higher resolution iMac screen I can see a fairly obvious unevenness in the keybed. On no, it's a red Kronos. !
