Hey,
concers NORD WAVE !
can I create as many splitzones as I want and set the range for everyone of them individually.or is the funktion "splitzone" restricted to the typical "two in one synth" thing. means there aren't any splitzones but I can play two sounds when I push the button A, B or whatever...
Thanks
Friede

Re: Splitzones
Hi Friede,
unfortunately there is no split function in the Wave;
you can play one sound in slot A and another sound switching to slot B, or play both at the same time.
The only way for having sounds with splited zones is making them in the Sample Editor.
Diego.

Re: Splitzones
Hey, friede-
Actually there is a way to approximate this in the Nord Wave. You can use the Keyboard position as a morph controller and use it to control the output of a slot. So, you can have one sound that will get louder as you go up the keyboard, and one sound that will get louder as you play lower on the keyboard. I have found that using this technique that the volume of either slot is almost non-existent at the soft end (higher or lower) so this works for a useful pseudo-split on the keyboard.
Hope this helps.

Re: Splitzones
yeah, thats waht is shown in one of the three videos jphannes postet in this forum...it is a cool effect but can not be compared with a real splitzone-as I also play Virus TI and can setup 16different sounds at the same time in splitzones...and I often use 3-7 in my life setup...but therefore also the number of keys is a bit a restriction 61 would be much better...but doesn't matter the nord is nice like this ...

Re: Splitzones
I´d love to have the split function in the Wave.
I don´t care if it´s fixed in middle C.
Just the possibility to assign slot A to the lower zone and slot B to the upper one;
and of course not global, but assignable inside each program.
Could this be possible with a new OS ?

Hi!
Would it be possible to convert sounds of (let's just say) two individual programs to samples and put them with the sample editor into split zones?
Would this be thinkable or is it not that easy?
Steff

In theory this is really easy to do, in practice it is much harder to come up with something nice.
Depending how complex the sound is you would probably sample 1-2 keys per octave, though you could also use more (up to 1 sample per key). It would probably be the best to do this via a DAW (Logic, Ableton, etc.) since that will make it easy to repeat (and the DAW can do latency compensation). This also makes slicing up the notes easy; for example, make all notes start at the beginning of a bar and draw the notes you want in the piano roll (which also makes it easy to modify length and velocity, etc. for a whole bunch of notes). There's also commercial software to do this automatically (Resampler and SampleRobot are two options).
Load the samples into the sample editor to create an NSMP file and load that into your Wave. Now start tweaking envelopes, effects, etc. to get the sound you want.
While you can have a completely different sample per key if you want, envelopes, effects settings, etc. are shared across the entire keyboard. This limits what you can do. Also, a sample is just a registration of a particular way of playing a particular note (velocity, how long was the key held own, was aftertouch or some other modifier used, etc).
You should definately give this a try. You'll get a better understanding of what you can and can't do with the Wave.

Re: Splitzones
Hello mjbrands,
thank you!
Your detailed explanation helped a lot to understand the possibilities and the difficulties. I would like to play along the Song "Last cup of sorrow" from Faith no more. Especially before the verses there is a bell/piano sound that needs to be lead in a string/pad sound. It can't be done as a switch because I don't want a cut of the bell release. So my idea is to put two octaves of each sound I programed as splits on the keyboard. I need both slots for both of the sounds so I have to sample it and can't do the morphing trick.
Should I go this complicate way? I don't know!
Best regards, Steff

Re: Splitzones
I would definitely try it
I was listening to that song, but where's the string/pad sound you are referring to? Is it in the version below?
