Full Factory Reset Help.

Postby BangladeshNZ » 04 Jan 2013, 00:09

Had a few issues with my Nord Wave deleting patches, so I have decided to do a full factory reset. Can someone that has done this before give me a little bit of guidance as to what they did. I just want to put Factory sounds back on and I have a cd that has Factory Sound Manager, is this the program i use. Obviously don't want to do anything that might cause big problems. Thanks guys.

You might want to verify your Wave has the latest software version (2.02) - it is displayed when the Wave starts and you see that progress bar showing the loading of samples for a few seconds. It probably has the latest version though.

You would indeed use the factory sound backup from the CD, though you could also download it from the Nord site (Wave download section) in case you can't find your CD or something like that.

Assuming you've already got the Nord Sound Manager installed, you can just fire that up and choose to restore a backup; I think it's one of the buttons in the top-right of the window. Before restoring the factory sounds you could create a backup of what you currently have on there, if you wanted to, but that's not required.

If I remember correctly restoring a complete backup takes about 15 minutes. After it's done you can restart your Wave, but you don't have to but you do want to switch to a different program since the one the display will be showing after the restore operation might not exist anymore on the Wave. :-)

This is a pretty simple and a risk-free thing to do, provided you don't have any sounds on there you want to keep. As mentioned it does take a while though.

Edit: you could install the newest version of the Sound Manager (currently v6.26) if you have an older version, but if you have version 5.x I wouldn't bother. The newer versions have quite a bit of new functionality that isn't implemented on the Wave (bit of a shame, really) that makes managing programs and samples easier. While the new 6.x version works just fine with the Wave, since it doesn't support the new functions the 5.x version are just as good for the Wave.

I'm convinced I saw someone post about this CReqCreateFile thing before, but I can't find it with the search function nor with Google.

What software version is on the Wave (I assume 2.02) and what version of the Sound Manager software are you using? If you were using the version included on the CD, could you try the version you can download from the website? If you were already using 6.xx, could you try using the one on the CD? Could you also try using a different USB port on your computer?

If I were you I would send Clavia a message about this (see the support section on their website). It would be nice if you could post about it when you have an answer.

The most logical issue (to me) seems an incompatibility between the software on the Wave and the version of the Sound Manager software.

Edit: seems the other issue was a CReqFileClose on a Stage 2. The guy who started that thread didn't post again, so I have no idea if he solved it and what caused it.

I am about to do the same thing on my nord electro 4 hp. I have been getting the creqcreatefile error, so I am backing up my sounds and will then try and do a system restore. I suspect the same thing will happen to me, but I guess it's worth a try since Nord's technical support admit that they are probably too slow to reply to technical problems.

I think I caused the problem by attempting to play a note before a sample had completed downloading to the Nord. Nord should warn people to not do this if it is the cause of the error.

I will let you know if the restore works for me; I have the latest of everything, since there have been no updates since the electro 4 hp shipped.

Because of NAMM I have had my email and phone auto-responses set to let people know that response times will be increased because I've been putting in long hours at the show (and I'm not home yet), but surely there is no other major keyboard maker on the planet whose technical support operates with the speed and efficiency of Nord. End-users in Canada and the USA are always invited to contact me directly at my work email address at any time with any problems:

I should be caught up with pending inquiries by the end of the week...

In my experience problems are sometimes created by playing notes or otherwise messing around with panel controls during a data transfer operation. I do not know that this is a hard and fast rule, but it will certainly be best to avoid this possibility by refraining from messing around with the instrument while upload/download operations are in progress.

Bless,
