hi
i know about these libraries
http://www.nordkeyboards.com/sound-libr ... -dx7-mk-ii
http://sc-sounds.com/clavia-nord.html
but i'm not into sampled synths, i think they sound a bit dead.
but did anybody recreate the DX7 patches other than Chris Martirano ? they sound fine but there's not a lot
http://www.nordkeyboards.com/sound-libr ... no-fm-bank
thanks

The DX7 sounds from SC-Sounds are pretty nice!

Doesn't look like it.
After having a snoop around the web, I've come to the conclusion that Martirano's FM bank is the only one currently available. There may be a couple of DX7 style patches amongst the rest of the official Nord Wave programs library, but that's all I can think of.
I'm a little miffed as to why Nord didn't add another bank or two of FM stuff--even if it was only another 25 or so patches. The FM section (in dual mode at least) seems pretty capable.
Meh...

Geez, dude. The Wave comes with 8 banks of 128 programs each, 1024 total. And they are pretty badass programs, too. If, as you say, the FM section seems pretty capable, why not have a go at programming yourself...?

I probably should have written that last paragraph out a bit differently, so that it doesn't sound like a blatantly unjust critique of Nord--which it isn't--trust.
Another DX7-esque FM bank (maybe instead of another bank of 128 mixed) is something I think would have been cool, purely because after some sonic exploration, I find the Waves dual FM mode (not FM + VA, etc) can go quite a bit beyond what is demonstrated in the current dual FM presets. In short, I feel they could have shown this things pure FM versatility off a bit more, with an additional FM bank or two.
There.

Re: DX7 patches, not samples ?v
I read Pablo text in the sense of a positive proposal for you to program the FM sounds that you cannot find from Nord.
You can Google search for FM patches books/data sheets (not many but there are some) or (better) use one of those VSTi that can load Dx7 .syx patches and use it to analyze the parameters of ones you like, then try to reproduce them on the NW

Thanks, Hertzi, for a stand-up response. Truth is, what I had originally typed after "programming yourself" was "instead of whining..." but that sounded too harsh and would have made me a whiner, too. Now I'm glad that I didn't shove my whole foot completely down my throat and make a complete ass of myself. Always better to be half-assed than a complete ass.
I think what really happened there is that Nord wrote two factory banks plus perhaps a dozen or so programs into the 3rd bank. Early Waves were delivered this way. Then they reached out to some seriously capable programmers around the planet and invited them to write additional programs and that's what those folks came up with. It's probably true that the programming could be pushed further, but by the time the final factory load was settled...well...then it was time to move on to the next project.
My hats totally off to anyone versed in FM programming vagaries. When the DX7 came out I tried to comprehend programming and quickly failed. Looked at the D-50 and went the Roland way and never seriously looked back at those FM vagaries. Maybe someday...
Bless,
Pablo

Re: DX7 patches, not samples ?
Hello, I have programmed a the DX7 patch Syn-Orch, form the ROM2 B14. I used it for Who wants to live forever by Queen.
No sampling, just tweaking
Unfortunately, dued to Wave's FM algorhythm limitations, you can't reproduce al the DX7 patches, but you can go closer.

Nice one!
Why don't you post also the Program or at least the Synth patch? Or tell us which algorithm and settings ( Shape. Filter, Envelopes...) did you use?

Re: DX7 patches, not samples ?
Yeah! I will upload the patch as soon as possible! Anyway, I used both the slots A & B,
A: osc1 FM (pure sine -1 oct.) - osc2 (FM pure sine 0 oct. slightly down detuned)
B: osc1 (FM pure sine +1 oct, sligthly up detuned) - osc2 (FM pure sine with some feedback-shaping (similar to a sawtooth)).
Add chorus and reverb. That's it!
