Sample Transpose

Postby Mantrak » 26 Jul 2015, 16:42

Hi everybody. Just got me a NE5 and now I am trying to make some sampled brass lines and use them in split mode. There is a whole lot of sampled brass bits and pieces which I play unpitched (only original pitch, no scaling up or down). There is no space on the keyboard so I can use only one key per sample.

Now here is a problem. I need to transpose all samples half tone up (don't ask me why, ask the singer). It WOULD be possible if we had "Lower" tone on each sample. We could then set both the Lower and Higher tone one semitone below the Root tone and thus get +1 transpose. But we only have "Root" and "Higher" tone, so Root always equals Lower tone. :(

However I solved it, by using detune. Since max detune is half semitone (50 cents) you have to use both global and note detune to add them up.

Obviously, I would not be so lucky if I needed more than a semitone. So, am I missing something or this is the only way to get your single-sample-per key transpose working?

Please answer only if you have been actually working with Sample Editor and trying to transpose samples. No guessing please.

Hi Mantrek
Did you find a solution in Sample Editor? I have a similar problem regarding a sample for Yes - Owner of a lonely heart (sampled in A) - the singer wants it in G :-)

If you did find a solution - please post it here.

Otherwise if you have Logic Pro X - maybe this could help you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVU_N1EnQME (have not tried it yet - but I am going to)

If you have the original sample in .wav format you can transpose it using Audacity or any other audio editor having that capability.
