Hi out there,
does anybody have a sampled piano where the strings are damped with fingers so that stuff can be played that e.g. Chick Corea or Jamie Culum are playing.
You answers are appreciated...
Thanks and cheers

Re: Request for a finger damped piano sample
Interresting idea! It's a very cool sound! Esbjörn Svensson did this a lot too.
I could make an attempt to sample this on my grand piano if you want. But I imagine that the lack of velocity layers will make it dull.

Hi,
Good to hear! I think this topic could be handled with velocity dependent filters.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Request for a finger damped piano sample
I also thought recently of the possibility of making this kind of sample (of course, it would be great if nord themselves made a piano sound like that, but i think it's not likely to happen)
Regarding the not existing velocity layers, i think the nature of the sound itself plays in our favor... it's a rather short and percussive sound, that might work okay as a sample with velocity filter on.
Another idea i had was the possibility to morph between a normal piano sound and the dampened sample using the wheel or a pedal, in order to control the amount of "dampness". Ideally, one would find a Grand Piano that is similar in sound to an existing piano (A Yamaha C7 like in the Studio Grand 2 maybe, as it is close miced and also the one with the nearest to perfect tuning)

They should make it happen at nord as a tribute to this great guy mr. Svenson.

Re: Request for a finger damped piano sample
My bet is that this is a case where making your own samples would be the best option because you can decide how damped/resonant you want it.
