Organ Sound from Soul Kitchen - The Doors

Postby enaydee » 10 Aug 2016, 22:24

Hello all

I have a Nord Piano 2 and as others have noted, found the organ sounds lacking a little. Would anyone have a .nsmp that would sound similar to the organ sound Ray Manzarek plays on Soul Kitchen please? I've tried so many and not found the one I'm looking for yet... Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

There's a program on my NS2 that's a good starting place, "Rays Vox n Bass" which emulates Rhodes Bass in the left hand and Vox Continental in the right hand. Vox drawbars are 668806086. Add some reverb, roll-off some bass maybe, and you're pretty darn close.

EDIT: Sorry, I just realized you have the NP2. Sorry I can't help you there.

The NP2 is not an organ, does not have an organ, and is not designed to reproduce organ in any meaningful way. It is for people who don't want, need or care for organ or who already have organ function covered by another instrument. If you own an NP2 and want organ, then you bought the wrong instrument.

If you were more open minded, you might understand that not everyone wants to or needs to preserve the great sanctity of the organ and perhaps, just want to make some sounds similar to bands they like on the instrument they have. I was asking for help, not condescension. Keep it to yourself next time.

Does anyone have an nsmp.format file of the Vox Continental? That would be perfect for my Nordwave.
Thanks!

Hi enaydee,

was reading the purpose of this section of the forum ("Share and download User samples (*.nsmp or *.nwiproj and sample files) created for the Nord Wave, Nord Electro 3/4, Nord Stage 2, and the new Nord Piano 2. "), so it seems your Nord Piano 2 can download nsmp-files, right? I own a Nord Wave and am looking (as you) for an nsmp.-file of the Vox Continental from the Doors (played in "Light my fire", etc.). Let's hope someone can help us out!
Best regards,

Ricardo

Hi,

obviously the NP is not exactly suited for organ playing as mentioned earlier.

But given NORD actually has some fine organ emulations, I tried quickly just to create NSMP files of some organ registrations on my NS2 to create the samples for NP users and others. Now of course there are many caveats, but for some tune once in a while, why not.

So basically I took three VOX registrations (the once I use for Light My Fire, Soul Kitchen, When the music's over), and pretty automatized ran a MIDI script playing a note every 6 semitones, recording it, and let the NORD Sample Editor do the automatic assignment, just changed the loop areas which didn't work so well.
Feel free to adjust them or whatever you want: I uplaoded the ZIP file containing the MIDI, WAVE, and NWPROJ files so you can adjust to taste.

Finally a small preview of the samples:

Surprisingly OK IMHO, but of course, things like changing registrations for the solo, etc etc won't work as on the NS2.

Let me know if it works!

Cheers
