General Discussion of the Nord Stage (EX), Nord Stage 2 (EX), Nord Stage 3, and Nord Stage 4 Synths, FAQ, Troubleshooting etc.

What? Is this really the only way to select synth patches?

Hello, Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I've tried searching without success. And feel free to move this thread if it should go in the feature request section.

I just upgraded from the EX to a Nord Stage 2 (rev B) yesterday. YEY!!!!!. While I am quite happy so far, I was disappointed by the apparent lack of a category search function (or classification) for the patches in the synth section.

I need to do quite a lot of splits and layers on the fly, because we are often improvising and I have to cover many parts on keys (bass, pads, leads) at the same time. I loved the Stage EX for the fact that in the synth section, the patches were broken down into three categories (Bass, Pads, Synth), giving me instant access to what I was looking for. So I was very disappointed not to be able to do that with the NS2, but rather have to scroll through endless (unrelated) patches until I find one that works.

Perhaps it is possible, and I missed it? Meanwhile my workaround (albeit very imperfect) I guess will be to re-order all of the synth patches using sound manager so that I keep similar types together. Woah! that sounds like a lot of work!

Thoughts?

Thanks, but unless I am mistaken, this is for the entire programs (including splits and layers on the piano, organ and synth sections), as opposed to only for the synth's own patches.

Unfortunately I think that is the only way to scroll through them all. Nord probably figured everyone would be making their own patches. :|

My suggestion would be to take some time and go through the sounds yourself. Make a note of what category you think each sound should go in, then arrange them yourself. Make 1-49 Bass, 50-99 Pad, 100-149 Lead, 150-200 Samples, etc. Or whatever fits your needs. It will take more work at first but you'll end up with a custom instrument that's set up the way you want it.
