Test screen after opening my Nord

Postby Ronnybonny » 12 Sep 2015, 18:02

*EDIT* There is another thread about it. I will try this first: general-nord-forum-f29/nord-stage-2-doesn-t-boot-t9434.html
Hello everyone,

I just opened and cleaned my Nord Stage 2 with the help of some videos i found on this board. Thanks for that. I have disconnected the piano keys to take out two keys for intensive cleaning.
After assembling i turned it on and it showed a weird screen i have never seen before..

It said: NS2 73B Tst 074
MNB PNL KBD SYS

My keyboard is not starting up and i can't connect it to the Nord Soundmanager. What to do?

Sincerely,

Ronny

Maybe you disconnected some ribbon cable and did not put it back correctly? Or a ribbon cable got loose when reassembling it?
I have no idea what the message means, but if I had to guess: something to do with MaiN Board PaNeL KeyBoarD SYSstem?

Hi Ronnybonny,

Your instrument is booting to Test Mode. This is an indication that your OS has been wiped. There are many things which may have gone wrong. For example, if you had static electricity built up in your body and touched the wrong place on the mainboard, you may have zapped some chips to death.

I'm not sure which videos you are referencing when you say thanks, but it seems a little odd to be thanking someone who assisted you in messing up your instrument. I have seen some "tutorials," both video and narrated still photos, which have some good bits in them, but I have not seen one good enough to endorse in its entirety.

Your best first option will be to attempt to reload latest OS to the instrument, and pray that it works. If that fails, you might try opening it back up to double check all cable connections, but honestly your best bet will be to take it to a pro. You've already dug yourself into a hole and should perhaps not take a chance on digging it deeper. You are, after all, talking about an instrument on which you spent $3k+.

Bless,

Pablo

Hello,

Had this same thing happen to me after opening up my Stage 2 Compact to make a minor repair to a bad output jack. When re-assembling and powering back up I quickly get "Booting Test (F)", and then the "NS2 73B Tst 0.74 MNB PNL KBD SYS" message. Can't seem to get beyond this message. Has anyone found a solution to this, such as an operating system reload? I live in a remote part of the country and would have to ship it a thousand or so miles away to get it to a repair station. Thanks for any help anyone can offer.
