Still the same missing functions since the NS1

Postby alcools » 02 Oct 2017, 23:25

Here is a list of some simple wishes I have since the first Nord Stage. Only simple things (nothing hardware I think):
- Possibility to edit pitch bend range (1 octave is often needed)
- Free choice of split points (like on the G2 in the menu)
- Possibility to send NS3 Master Clock to other machines

I always hope it could become reality, one of these days...
Actual synth: Nord Modular G2 - Nord Stage 3 73 - Virus Ti2 - Peak - Prophet 6
Before: Nord Lead 3 & 4, Stage 1&2, Wave, Virus C, DSI Tetra, P12, and few others...

Free split points are unlikely to happen as there are LED's on the top edge of the keyboard that mark the splits.

Well, you have sort of more pitch bend options on the stage 3 since you can use pitch as oscillator control on some configurations to get up to 24 semitones of pitchbend. But you can´t do it with the pitch stick since it´s not morph assignable. Still love it though.

As someone proposed in a similar discussion sometime ago, the fact that leds are fixedis not really a blocker, it would still be OK to have the free split option in the menu and turn on or "flash" two leds when the split point is between them; most other keyboars have no split leds at all, so this solution would anyway be a plus for the NS compared to those.

Well, send a request for each of them to http://www.nordkeyboards.com/support
and add them to the request sheet : https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1k6K5lws5Vqdz3EG3n_UxTuvzNcjSF5k9OPLCnPTdP3o/edit#gid=0

After all the bugs are fixed we could ask ppl. here to all individually send each request from the sheet and maybe Clavia will act om that because of "high demand" ?

IMHO, Clavia should read the posts on this forum and improve their products accordingly. Their customers have taken the time to document their wishes in a very complete manner. Personally, I gave up on Clavia implementing the improvements I desire and sold my Stage 2 HA88 a few years ago. I still have an Electro 4D and am working on swapping out the springs myself because I can't stand the action provided by Clavia.

As has been noted numerous times, they DO read this forum - not only have they themselves credited norduserforum.com in their most recent firmware update for the Stage 3, but recently, Clavia even contacted a member on this forum after posting about a problem, before he had even contacted Clavia himself!

Since any keyboard action is a set of compromises, and any decision is going to leave some people dissatisfied and others happy, I think we can safely assume that whatever they’re shipping is a conscious decision to accept that you, in particular, will be unhappy, allowing the greatest amount of other customers to live with a compromise that best suits most of us.

That sounds really clumsy and unhelpful (you still don’t know where exactly the split is) for very little gain.

If the Stage were more of a workstation that allowed assigning various synth engines and samplers all over the place for that one-shot sample over here and a Shepherd sweep over there, it would make sense, but the Nord Stage, with its “two-of-each” limitation, really just isn’t that kind of keyboard and doesn’t try to be.

For that kind of stuff, Mainstage or a Kronos are the better option. If it’s just the odd patch where this would be useful, best to just stick with the sample editor to build your own patches, I think.

The gain is relative, I personally never felt the need and I am fine with fixed splitson the other hand users of every other synth/ws which ofeers free split but no display are happy with that too, so why not offering at least the same opportunity?

We are not talking about assigning one-note splits here, but about setting the split point of the usual 3 zones (4 on NS3) more freely and not just at C or F... this may actually be useful when playing in some keys, particularly on a 76/73-keys models where the available split key range is less.

I think this is where the splitpoint crossfade comes into play.
No hard splits anymore so it seems to me to be even better than pure splitpoint-freedom...

BUT this is NS3-only and won't be backported I think.
