Stage 2 Ex sound organizing
I just bought a Nord Stage 2 EX and had a few questions for those of you who are more experienced with these units.
I'm having a hard time understanding the way Nord organizes sounds on this....even though I've read the manual once already. What is the best way to organize, say, 7 or 8 sounds you would use on a typical club gig ? Maybe acoustic/ electric pno, couple of B3 patches, wurli, accordian..maybe, strings....couple of synthy-things ?
So you could reach them quickly....without scrolling through menus,etc... Since there are no inst. category lists on the front panel, how do you keep track of where various sounds are ?
There must be a good way to achieve this. Also, I'm finding the Rhodes pianos very similar sounding....even after messing with EQ,effects, and so on...
Good for pop tunes, definitley. But some Herbie Hancock/Chick Corea- type EP sounds would be pretty useful, I think.
Hope these questions aren't too lame but I'm interested in any comments.
Thx !

You can save each program with a category - I'd suggest "User" for the ones that you want to use for gigs. Then you can put the instrument into sort mode on that category and scroll through the sounds alphabetically. That's how I do it. I've posted a more detailed thread about it, so I'll try to find it for you.

You can also use the Nord Sound Manager and arrange the programs in any order you like. You can then go song to song with a single button push (two when it wraps on the 5th program (C1-1-C1-2-C1-3-C1-4-C1-5 Next Page C2-1 etc.

Another tip - Bank D is a copy of another bank and you can use the Sound Manager to completely delete all of these programs. Then you have 100 empty programs into which you can save the sounds you like. Either drag and drop, rename, recategorize via the Sound Manager or do it manually while you're playing.

Re: Stage 2 Ex sound organizing
Exactly-
I have had my NS 2 a while now and I don't have a single factory program in my unit. I am using about 225 slots with the other 175 just empty so I can move them anywhere I want. I play with three bands and have their sounds in banks A, B, and C.

Re: Stage 2 Ex sound organizing
Ok....thx for your replies. So what I'm seeing in the Sound Manager is exactly how the sounds are arranged in the kybd ....is that right ?
If you could repost that thread you mentioned I'd be interested in reading that.
yes...I did see that Bank D is a duplicate of Bank A.....does it matter which one you delete ?
I downloaded an RMI pno which appears in the samp lib partition but I don't see it anywhere in the kybd itself.....what did I miss ?

Re: Stage 2 Ex sound organizing
In my Stage 2, I moved things around so that my 20 "go to" sounds were placed in Bank A 1-through-5, Bank B 1-through 5, Bank C 1-through-5, Bank D 1-through 5. That gave me twenty sounds that I could always get to with one or two button-presses, and the same 2 button-presses would always bring up the same sound no matter where I was coming from. I described this in the thread at

Re: Stage 2 Ex sound organizing
Thx for that anotherscott.....I read through that older thread of yours....great suggestions from everyone.
I think I'll try your method....at least I can start there 'cause its been pretty confusing so far.
Glad to see I'm not the only one trying to sort out the best way to set the Stage ex up for gigs !!
Heres another possibly dumb question for you ...... when using the slots and both are activated, I can hear 2 sounds but only the sound in slot A is showing .......How can I change/remove the sound thats in Slot B...but doesn't seem to appear anywhere ??
thx

Re: Stage 2 Ex sound organizing
If both slot are activated, one is blinking. This means that everything you see or change (led encoders, synth/piano/organ activation/volume) will be related to this blinking slot.
Doesn't mean it's the only one you hear. If both are activated, you'll hear both.
To go from one to the other, just click the one you want to select.
To go from both slots playing together to only one, click them both togheter. Only one will be lit then. This one only will be heard.
Not sure I explain well, but play a bit with the two slots buttons. One after the other, then both together. It will quicly become evident.
