Re: Speaker for realistic piano sounds
If you don't need to fight with guitar heroes, ZX-A1 will sound great and won't break the bank (and your back)

Enough good suggestions here but whatever you use, use two of them. It makes a big difference to a single one...
I have good results with a Line 6 L2T + L2M.

Wholeheartedly agree! I've been using a pair of Mackie Thump TH-12A's for a few years and my ex (Electro 5) and current (Stage 3 Compact) both sound excellent (including piano sounds) to me thru them!
At less than 12kg each and around £500 for the pair, they neither broke my back nor the bank!
They're purely for my monitoring (and for the band to some extent) on stage as I go thru our own PA for FOH.

Re: Speaker for realistic piano sounds
Sorry about sounding like a broken record here, but in the *bang for buck* category, I will personally vouch for the QSC K8.2 units. Super sweet, super cheap.
Repeating myself again, but I have an outrageous inventory from which to make A/B comparisons.
One pair each QSC K8, K10, K12. A CPS SSv.3. A pair of lovely RCF TT08-as. Stupidly outrageous FA-12acs for incredible money. Oh yes, and a pair of QSC KW135 towers, in case it gets into bad-ass territory. A Motion Sound KBR-3D. Plus some loser Roland KCs hanging around which I haven't sold yet.
Hey, if you can't hear me, why the hell am I playing?
I've also owned Bose L1s and a pair of *sweet* JBL towers. And then there was the QSC line array thing that didn't end well. The RCF sub is bringing game, BTW. Love RCF.
I don't even want to add it up. Sheesh. I've spend more than a nice car on amplification.
No more amplification gear for me, I'm done. Enough for two bands on any given night.
That being said, I'm getting my bands into IEMs. All good. You want to talk AP-centric amplification, we can have a serious discussion.

Re: Speaker for realistic piano sounds
When not using my SONY V6 headphones, I use a pair of iLoud speakers at home. Although it is not really gig loudness, it works for me for practice even when playing with acoustic guitarist or/and vocalist. I just feed the iLoud set up from the NS3 headphone out. This my quick and easy home set up when I am not in a critical sound environment.

Love the QSC K8.2's! But they're hardly cheap - typically at $1,200 - $1,300 for the pair.

Maybe not "cheap," but on the low-end for pro quality gear. Even the ZXa1's approach $1,000/pr, but if you're on a tight budget, with either of these, better to start with one and go mono if need be. That is, If you only have $500-$650 to spend, better to get one good speaker than 2 not-so-good speakers (and you can always get a second later). Really, if you've spent in the neighborhood of $3500-$4500 for your keyboard, it's seems self-defeating to put it through sub-standard amplification. Piano is a tough thing to get sounding right. You're not likely to get it on a speaker much cheaper than a ZXa1/K8.2.

Yeah, my deal entirely. You spend stupid money on your boards, but don't want to spend on amplification? OK, I get it if you play in a band with a killer sound guy, but that ain't the deal for most of us. Bring game, or end up sucking wind.
I have never, ever regretted spending $$$ on killer amplification. Other tech ages badly, stage amplification not so much.
And I now can be a full-on sound company if the muse ever strikes ...

+1 for a pair of ZXA1s. I get a lot of compliments on the sound, although I had to buy a small mixer so I could add vocals.

Mixer can be good for getting a hotter signal into it, if you need more volume, but you shouldn't need to add a mixer just to add vocals. Each ZXa1 has a line input for your keyboard and a separate mic input.
