Rhodes too low - optimizing EQ settings

Postby kenny danse » 02 Mar 2011, 18:17

Hi there,

Have been using the Nord Stage quite a while now, but still haven't found optimal settings for the Rhodes (Mk I,II,V, suitcase, sparkletop, of the V5 library).

Usually I get too much low and mid, which is especially a problem in a band because it muddies up the bass and guitar. When playing solo even basic triads sound too dense in the midrange. Sound engineers also have a problem with this.

When I use the equalizer to dim the mid/low, the high usually becomes too sharp on the high section on the board. Ideally I want to be able to play freely across the board with a deep low section, the bright growl in the mid section and a round sound in the high section (without having to keep changing the settings while playing).

How do I tackle this?

Thks a lot

You might try some of the amp simulators. Also, I like to adjust the action up to level 3. Makes it easier to really spank it out here and there.

BTW, how can you adjust 'the action'?

It's in the directions somewhere. I don't have my keyboard right here. It's a two button process. you hold one down while you push another. anyone know right off which buttons?

I believe you might be talking about the 'Dynamics (Velocity Sensitivity) - see user manual version 5.x page 33.
Hold SHIFT and DYNAMICS buttons (the dynamics button is located in the piano section of the keyboard) - the LED display to the right can be selected from 1 through 3 (3 is the most compressed mode).
Hope this helps.
