Recommended sustain pedal for nord stage

Postby oatmello » 21 Feb 2017, 19:34

I just got a nord stage from a family member and am setting up to use as a midi controller for kontakt. It doesn't have the sustain pedal with it, and am wondering what would be a good choice. I picked up a Yamaha FC3A from Musicians Friend, but it doesn't seem to be working... I would like it to express different levels of sustain and not just on/off. I also notice there is an office Nord version, but 99.00 is pretty steep for a sustain pedal. Any thoughts?

To get half pedaling etc. the only pedal you can use is the original Nord Triple Pedal.

The only alternative is to use a continuous pedal connected to an external Master keyboard or aMIDI footcontroller box and send the sustain messages to the NS2

Note: the older NS Classic/EX don't support half pedal at all. Which model do you have, exactly?

For a regular control pedal I can totally recommend the Moog EP3. I was using a couple of Roland EV5's and they are crappy, lightweight plastic. Very quickly they get dirty/fail and then you have jumping control. The moog cost me less than the roland and is more solid, proper metal construction, has a much wider data range and is much better to play with. Brilliant pedal.

This thread is about "sustain pedals", not control/expression pedals.

You may try. It didn't work for me. If I use the FC3a on my Yamaha and play the Stage via MIDI, I do get half pedal. But with pedal noise switched on, I get more noise than I want to: While pressing the pedal, I get first a pedal-release sound, then three times full pedal noise; while depressing, I get another pedal noise (not pedal-release!). But maybe, this is only a problem of mine...
