Can you create a patch such that one slot or patch only plays upon keypress and the other only plays as an echo?
Assumption: both slots cover full range of keys, only one has delay on.
In this scenario the slot with delay would play on keypress as well as on delay interval, right? If so is there another way to have the echo play another patch?

Re: Question about the delay effect
Kind of yes... In the NS2 there is an odd (to me) behaviour of the Delay "Amount" knob. If you pass about half, then the first hit of the notes starts to disappear, so you hear only the delayed bouncing signal only when it is at its maximum. I thought this is some kind of bug, but maybe not.
So you can use a piano in slot one (no delay, plays normally), in slot 2 use (let's say) a hapsichord with the delay amount at max and you hear only the delayed bounce, not the first one.

Re: Question about the delay effect
If you think of it like "wet/dry" mix, then that kind of behavior for delay amount pot is normal.

Thank You for the info. Play a long time the NS2, but this behaviour was new for me! Should give interesting effects.

Re: Question about the delay effect
Another cool thing to experiment with is using a morph controller to change delay time or depth for one or both panels. I have a few programs set up like this and it can be a lot of fun. I was inspired by the intro to The Killers' "Somebody Told Me" which my band plays occasionally. There's a part where the phased lead synth goes into this crazy effect that almost sounds like a record scratching thing. I was able to simulate it pretty well by using the wheel or pedal to rapidly morph the delay parameters.

Re: Question about the delay effect
Note that to hear the effects ericL is mentioning, it is necessary to change the factory default behaviour of the delay from DIGITAL to ANALOG.
And yes, it is AWESOME to play around with, can't get enough of it.
wrt to OP: it is a simple thing to, for example, set up an acoustic piano without delay and set up an electric piano with delay and the amount knob fully kranked up in the clockwise direction to achieve a "slapback" of the EP playing the same notes as the AP.
It is definitely best to think of that amount knob as a DRY/WET mix knob -- because that's what it is!
bless, Pablo

And on NS3, it's saved in the patch

Why it's necessary to change it from Digital to Analog? And where do you do that, in the system menu?

If you speed up an analog delay while it's echoing to shorten the delay time, the pitch goes up (and down as you slow it down). A digital delay can be lengthened and shortened without affecting the pitch of an already echoing signal.
So if you want that pretty rising/falling of delays, you need to switch to analog mode.
On the Stage 2, this is done in the System menu and is a global setting.
On the Stage 3, Holding Shift and pressing the delay filter button switches the mode per slot.

Re: Question about the delay effect
Ok, yes, of course....I think my stage 2 delay is on digital because I never encountered such a need while my delay time was changing....
