Problem with Stage 2 arpeggiator.

Postby chris james » 18 Apr 2013, 16:52

Hi, im hoping somebody will be able to help. Im having a problem with the stage2 arp.

Im getting an audible delay (like latency) after pressing the keys when locked to the master tempo, thus putting the arp out of sync with the track. I do not get this when setting the arp tempo manually, i press the note on and the arp starts straight away and perfectly in sync. If i set the arp manually to 84/8 (168 bpm) and have it playing perfectly in sync to that tempo,(midi data recorded to sequencer) then switch to the master tempo (set to 168), the arp loop then has a delay after note on and plays behind time. I would be happy set it manually to my desired bpm to work around this, although it isnt possible to set it to 170 bpm manually? I can only get 168 or 172 because of the way that the arp steps through increments when inputting tempo manually.. for example 84:8 for 168bpm then onto 86:8 for 172bpm.
Im working at 170 on all projects so this is something quite important for me to get figured out.

Thanks in advance for any help.. ive been a silent reader on this forum over the last couple of months, and its great. Everyone seems very helpful.

Thanks.
Chris.

Maybe this is unrelated, but just in case check the settings of the Delay. If you set the (I think) Amount dial too high, you do not hear the played note, but the repeat.

Maybe its not having an actual delay.

Right now I am not at home, so I cannot verify this. But here is what I think. The manual delay starts when you press the key, the "master tempo" is always in sync with the master tempo. So maybe it does not trigger when you press it because you are actually a little bit too late, so it triggers until the next beat. You'd have to switch notes before they would trigger so they actually do.

Hope this is the solution!

Hi thanks for the replies, although i dont think this is the answer.

Im sat in front of the stage2 at the minute, in local mode without the daw/sequencer connected... and the stage2 delay effect deactivated. I have a synth sound loaded with the arp activated and manually set to 84:8. If i now press any one key by itself, it will sound immediately and an arp pattern will follow.

If i now activate master tempo for the arp (set to 168), and press any one key, it doesnt sound immediately but late.. then followed by the arp pattern. (like im experience latency)

In my usual tests, the stage2 receives note on messages from the sequencer, so it isnt anything to do with me hitting the keys out of time. It plays fine manually set but once i switch to master tempo with the same midi notes playing from the sequencer, it falls behind.

Anyway thanks again.

I also have the same issue

When in manual, i play different chords and the notes are playing as soon as i play the keys,

There a delay when I'm on master clock when I'm doing the same chords.

Regards,
Daniel

Ah, im sorry to hear that you're experiencing the same problem, although i am in some way glad to hear that it isnt just me.

Could this be a bug with the nord stage2 i wonder? Im hoping not.

Thanks.

I do not play with a sequencer so maybe gustavo is right.

Our drummer is using a metronome but in a live situation, if the drummer is slight slower/faster, you need to follow him, so you want the notes to sound when you hit the keys...

Daniel

Oh, maybe I am starting to understand what you mean.
So do you expect the clock to be synchronised to your hitting of they keys?

I am not sure how this should be when in Master clock mode, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is like a metronome, which does not wait for you to play, but you need to follow it
I can try this right now, sorry (red monster in the red bag).

Master clock should react like the manual arp I think.

Just what I tried to say

Most likeley it is the reason for the problem, still it is bad if you cannot adjust the tempo in decimal units!
