NS3 Bug reports etc.

Postby Ecaroh » 20 Jul 2017, 22:14

Hi all!

I am lucky to have a brand new NS3 (76-model) for testing at the moment and most likely for purchase if there's no big or fatal issues found.

I've had some strange things with it in my quite complex synth setup, but I assume those are more about my personal incompetence. Yet there's one thing which seems real:

After power start up, if you are on a synth progran, panel A synth is silent or muted. Panel B synth sounds normally. Only way to make A-synth audible is to go to another program and then back. Anyone else have this?

Because there's so much talk on NS3, maybe we could use this thread for bug reports and actual experiences about those few Stages that are out there?

Yes, I have it also and have reported to Nord via their Web Support and the Distributor here (and asked them how they want bug reports, but I've not yet received a reply on that).

Anyway, the issue appear to be related to the seamless transition feature, and it's a bit complex, it seems.

If you have seamless transitions enabled, then sometimes one of the panels will be silent (as you say). One sure way to provoke the issue is to switch it on, and press Shift - Program Init - Synth. That should leave you with a simple synth settings, but you will get a silent panel. Then change to another program and back again and repeat the initialisation and you'll be fine.

Once you have a silent panel, if you then disable seamless transitions, there is NO way you can get the panel to sound again in that program :-(

You can also have the problem as you mentioned, where panels go silent when you change to a program. If you then go to another and back again, the panel will sound. This can apparently be fixed by disabling the seamless transitions; then I've not seen the issue between program changes. But then the init problem will be even worse.

So a pretty bad problem, I think. Luckily, I've only seen it (so far) for panels that are not enabled when you enter the patch, so I'm yet to see it in a live situation.

Try to report the issue also; it might put a bit more push on Clavia. I was also thinking about creating a post on bugs, but decided against it initially, as it will be quite difficult for Nord developers to track. I am instead creating a (google) sheet with descriptions of bugs and how to reproduce it, which can be updated, so there will be only one place to add bugs and maintain an overview (I would prefer that, from a developer point of view). I could also share that, if needed? A combination of such a list and place to discuss it might be the best approach?

On my list there is that bug and some other less severe ones currently.

I thought a lot of bugs would have been found from beta testers....
You should be in their beta testers list :) ...since you got your NS3, you have found a lot of things.

Thanks a lot !!!!
Daniel

Yeah, that seems to be (part of) my role here in life... my students at the university where I teach (mainly User Experience Engineering to Digital Media Enginering and Computing Science MSc candidates) usually expect me to point out all the problems with their designs too (and sometimes, luckily, also the good parts) :-)

But thanks for the kind comment!

@baekgaard:
I already reported this bug via Clavia's site, "Contact Technical Support", so let's see what happens and how soon...

I'd really like to check this (google) sheet if possible. It would be very helpful, because you obviously have done good work with testing!

+1 for the google sheet bug report.
All new NS3 users will be able to know what are the known bugs/reported to Clavia.
If a new bug is found, another user could try to replicate it to be sure and if it is really a bug, somebody could add it to the Google sheet.

Regards
Daniel

About "silent panel" issue:
I got an email from Clavia Support and they say this bug will be fixed ASAP. There's a vacation period at the moment, so this is of course slowing things little bit... But I am glad this is taken seriously and we can expect things to get better in near future ;)

Yeah, I also just (a few minutes ago) got an email back saying they're in holidays mode currently.

Anyway, I've created a Google Sheet form to document the bugs. Feel free to improve/edit/add/confirm bugs through that... Currently it's open to anyone with the link; if that creates problems, I'll revoke permissions to edit and hand it out to only those that ask.

The link is here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

Now, Clavia should have a link to this sheet as well :)
The issues are well explained
Thanks !
