Hi,

Apologies if this was covered before.

Taking synths and organs aside, do you think would the stage2ex88 be a good choice for piano playing when compared to the piano3? are there obvious shortcomings aside from the 2/3 contact points?

And can the provided single sustain pedal do half-pedal and pedal noise (similarly to the triple pedal)?

I'm not familar with the stage2ex lcd screen, is it possible to browse piano/organs/synths names by reading their names on the lcd screen?

And if you replaced one sound using the editor/usb, what happens to programs which make use of that sound? would they still work and just play the new sound instead?

Can't answer your first question as I never played a NP3.

The pedal included in the NS2 (I believe it is the same as the NS2EX) does not do half pedal or noise. You need the triple pedal for that.

You can browse the *program* names without loading (Pending Load in the manual). Once in a program you can cycle through the different pianos within a category or change category, but obviously this changes the sound as you do it. Same for synth samples.

Well if you remove piano samples, you obviously loose that sound. Programs using those need to be relinked (you choose another sample that is to replace the deleted one).

Do you think would the stage2ex 88ha be satisfactory as a piano alternative for piano practice?
Do you reckon would you miss the nuances of the 3 contacts when compared to other brands / piano 3?

I own a Stage 2 HA88 and an acoustic Yamaha U1 upright.

The Stage 2 is fine for playing piano and also for piano-practice IMO, but it will never be the same as a real upright.
Don't believe the new key bed on the Piano 3 makes that kind of difference, just makes it easier to play more dynamic I think.

just got back from the shop with a nord stage 2ex88...

Congratulations! It's a super piece of equipment.
My advice is to take your time getting to know the board and do some program making yourself (instead of sticking to the factory presets).

many thanks, for some reason I had to purchase it full price, no discounts, and couldn't wait until next year. I just wish it'll be at least another 1.3 years before nord announces the stage3, perhaps somebody ehm Pablo ehm could put my mind at ease

ehm Pablo ehm does not get advance notice on Nord product development. Nord keeps a tight lid on these things and frankly I rather enjoy the suspense as NAMM and MESSE approach. In the case of NAMM, which opens on a Thursday, I will attend a meeting on Tuesday of that week and learn what is new. In most recent years Nord reveals the new model(s) on their website on Monday of that week, so if I'm offline on Monday while traveling to NAMM, you guys will know what's up before I do.

As has been written here many times, the Stage model's development path has been fairly consistent: 3-4 years per model before being replaced. The NS2EX is now ~1-1/2 years old. As such, I think it is unlikely that we will see an NS3 until NAMM 2018 at the earliest based on the proposition that past behavior is a good predictor of future behavior. The possibility remains that Nord will do something to break with tradition, as they have already done with the NE5 becoming the first Electro model which was not strictly monotimbral.

Your NS2EX is an amazing and very capable machine. It will remain so long after an NS3 is released.
