Hi all,

similar to the topic on bugs and known issues of the NS2 here, this topic collects what you are missing on your NS2, be it new features, or including changes in the hardware and what you would like to see in the future. Please post your personal wish list as a reply to this topic. In the first post, the Mods will try to collect the ideas mentioned in order to keep this topic user-friendly.

Layout/Hardware related
  1. Missing low E-key on the Compact/Electro 73 (=> Compact 76) +2
  2. Single Sustain Pedal with Pedal Noise and half-pedaling +3
  3. More Sample Memory +2
  4. Audio over USB +1
  5. XLR balanced outputs
  6. I am missing true ADSR envelopes in the synth section (Sustain Pots!) +1
  7. Oscilliator/LFO as source for morphing : An independant LFO that would assignable as a controler to morph.
  8. Possibility to send ALL instruments in the FX 1, 2, and 3 +1
  9. Morphing for all buttons like the NL3 or at least with Synth part.
  10. MIDI-thru or at least the possibility to mix midi messages from the keyboard and the Midi input port, to the Midi out port, to use it a little like a Midi thru Individual splitpoints (not only at C and F)
  11. Allow playing the Organ velocity sensitive (for non purists obviously!)
  12. Clav Mute Samples with the MOD wheel

(Potentially) Software related:
  1. Programmable pitch bend range (+/- 12 or 24 semitones, preferable stored in patches) +5
  2. Reverb not global but for each instrument (or panel) +1
  3. Activate the Arpeggiator via MORPHING
  4. Widen the range of the vibrato settings vastly for extreme uses. +1
  5. Spring Reverb +1
  6. More functionality for the Synth SHAPE knob: This knob is morphable and has leds, I wish it had more actions on the samples, like the ability to controle
  7. Attack/Decay/Relase of Mod or Amp. Nord Sample Editor could offer that choice of assignation.
  8. Different splitzones for Slots A and B +1
  9. Fade In for Vibrato Delays: The Vibrato delay function of the synth section just switches the vibrato on after the delay time. It’s much more musical if the vibrato fades in.

NS2 Wish List: Something missing on the NS2?

Postby cleito » 26 Feb 2011, 01:15

Hi everyone,
Now that we know what the Nord Stage 2 is, is there something that someone is missing in it?
Until now, the only thing that I'm still unhappy is about the program selection buttons.
The NS classic and EX had 6 buttons and now only 5.
I know there is a lot of pages, but I miss the 16 buttons of the Motif that I had.
With more buttons, you have fast acces to the sound, it's a 1 click sound.
Those that play live know what I'm talking about.
Does anybody else miss it too or anything else?

One thing that's missing is the "Sustain pedal use as rotor" option, which is strange because all the Electros and the previous Stages had it. But it's not that important.

Good observation. I missed that. I really hope that it's either a mistake that it's not in the manual, or that they can update the stage 2 to get this feature. It would be a bit anoying to have to drag another pedal around just for this.

I am overall extremely happy with the Nord Stage 2. Clavia did a great job with it, and it seems they listened to people and included most features, that people wanted.

I just have some small issues with it of the top of my head (some of it is nitpicking).
1. Electric grand category: I liked that they removed the Electric grand category and included the Harpsichord instead. However I don't like, that they put the Electric grand inside the Grand Piano category. It would be better to have it in the E.Piano2 category(wurlitzer). There you would only have the Wurlitzer anyway, while you would probably have more samples in the Grand category.
2. Unison button: I don't like that they replaced the Unison knob with a button. From the manual it seems that it does pretty much the same thing as before. There are 3 settings of adding 1 detuned oscillator, and 3 setting of adding multi detuned oscillators. Why not just have a knob as before, which seemed to have more than 3 settings of each, and it is also faster to turn a knob than to click a button up to 6 times. You could still use the shift fuction with the knob to turn the mod velocity on as you can with the button.
3. Program section layout: I don't like that the Sound Init buttons and the Set split point buttons are so far away from the Shift key. I would move them down and move the store button, display, value dial knob and the page buttons up, since none of these needs the shift button when you're in a hurry.
4. Only 73 keys on Compact: Alot of people have commented that they miss the low E-key on the Compact/Electro 73. And I don't understand why they don't just put 76 notes on them. I saw different places that people had modified the Electros with exra keys.

http://forums.musicplayer.com/ubbthread ... ost2210161
It seems the contacts for the 3 extra keys are already there, but Clavia, for some reason, decides to not add them and put in woodblocks to cover the space instead.
We can only speculate why, but it doesn't seem logical to me. People could be getting 3 more keys, with no disadvantages.
5. Nord triple pedal: This last one is the most important to me. I would really love to have pedal-noise, and halfpedaling with the Nord Stage 2. But the triple-pedal just seems too bulky/heavy to drag around. I really wish Clavia would consider making a single sustain pedal, that worked with half-pedaling and pedalnoise. Pesonally I probably wouldn't use the 2 other pedals on the triple-pedal much anyway.

1-3 are not that important. 1 could be done in an software-update, I would think, but it is already too late to include 2-3.
4-5 seems doable to me, especially nr. 5, which is also really important to me.

Thanks Cbas.
I have done the modification too. I have a nord stage compact 76. I did not do it myself so I can't tell you the details, but I happened to have the Fatar controller keyboard that uses the same keys and I took The E and the top G from it. Then I realized that the black keys were not exactly the same, so I ordered some from Nord. I have some more so I will do the modification to the Stage 2 I'm going to buy.First thing I did was to ask Nord if they will be using a 76 keybed again. I too am very happy about it and I already sold My Motif Rack which I used for Non-stage sounds.
Anyway from what I understand, the only reason that they don't put those extra keys there is that Fatar doesn't make waterfall "End" E and G keys, so it looks a bit weird because they are not flat. But I don't think any player would sacrifice those keys for aesthetic reasons. It seems like a strange decision from Nord. Anyway I highly recommend finding a keyboard tech and doing the mod, only drawback is the loss of warranty I guess.

Thanks for the info. I will consider doing the mod. It's just strange that Clavia don't do this themselves. If it's really because Fatar doesn't do end E/G waterfall keys, I can't see how Clavia could not convince them too, since Clavia are probably a pretty good customer for Fatar.
It might also be, that when they started making the Electro, they wanted to make a 61 and 73 note version to make it seem more "vintage". And with the Stage Compact, they just continued to do the same.
It just seems very illogical for me that they don't include the extra 3 keys. But who knows.

Yeah I agree, hopefully they'll listen to us someday.
Anyway I emailed them about the sustain pedal rotor thing and they said they would put it on a request list for an OS update fix.

I would certainly like to have a single sustain pedal that allows for half-pedaling, and pedal noise too if possible. I'm not going to have enough space for the triple pedal, morph/volume pedal and a rotary switch.
Or, Nord should at least allow me to designate the una corda or sostenuto pedal to control Rotary switch.

Will the half pedaling feature work with other pedal brands? Then I may consider giving up pedal noises. If so, which brand & type?

Sorry half-pedaling is not supported by any other pedal than the Nord Triple-Pedal.
