Hi folks,
I thought I'd sign up here, perhaps somebody can help me out.
I'm writing on behalf of a student of mine, who ended up with a non-working pitch stick after performing an OS update on his NS2.
I was wondering if bespoke update might have overwritten/erased some calibration offsets, and how to enter diagnostic mode in order to test and hopefully fix this. (Since the malfunction started after a software modification, I don't think it is a hardware issue.)
Unfortunately there's no service manual floating around in the WWW. Does anybody here know how to access diagnostic mode (a combination of pressed buttons on start-up I guess) or have any other knowledge?
Thanks & cheers,
Tim (the ex-G2 guy, and NS2 user himself)

Re: NS2 service manual/diagnostic mode?
It is probably not defective pitch stick if all he/she did is SW update. You need to just make sure the device pitch stick is turned on for the instrument you have selected. You can find the User guide on http://www.nordkeyboards.com/

Does the stick transmit MIDI when ON? You can use a MIDI monitor program to see what comes out of the MIDI ports.

Re: NS2 service manual/diagnostic mode?
Hi Tim/ex-G2 guy,
Diagnostic mode on NS2 does not contain any PSTICK calibration routines or anything like that. Occasionally I have observed (perhaps others have seen this as well) that electronic devices will fail in such a way as to trick one into thinking that "x" caused the failure when in actuality "x" was a coincidence. A great many people (thousands at least) have updated OS on their NS2 instruments and I have yet to hear of a verified case of someone losing pitch stick function as a result. It is a virtual certainty that this is a simple case of PSTICK failure and that replacement is indicated.
Bless, Pablo

Re: NS2 service manual/diagnostic mode?
Another important thing: during power-on the NS checks the PitchStick for calibration, if the stick is being moved it will be detected as "defective" (cannot be calibrated to 0 position) and disabled until the next (successful) restart.
Tell your studend to ensure the PB is not being touched and check the NS display for any error message during power-on

Re: NS2 service manual/diagnostic mode?
Thanks to everyone for your helpful replies.
I didn't know that the pitch stick is always checked at start-up. That clarifies a lot and means that I have to look further into things.
(BTW, my original assumption was based on reviving a synth with an apparently dysfunctional pitch-bend joystick which turned out not to be caused by a hardware defect but simply by the loss of the voltage calibration offsets in flash memory.)

Hey Aurelio,
Not sure what you want to do but the forced "update mode" is explained in the Troubleshooting section of this document:

Hope you solve the issue.

No Mr_-G-, Actually I just want to run a Diagnostic Mode on my NS2. Like Nord Electro 2 owner's do by pressing <1 + 2 + 3> button when power on.
"Update mode" is useless to me once my USB ISN'T working.
I just want to run a test over my equipment. It's for my personal use only, not for sharing on youtube or something like that.
Every keyboard brand has they own codes, I know that. I know sometimes they have to enter information like Serial number, etc.. So ALL want I just to run it on mine one and only that.
Come on, is that big deal?
