Hey all,
I'm using a NS2 HA88 with an M-Audio Axiom keyboard, via midi, as a master controller for the Dual KB funtion on the Nord.
I have a sustain pedal in the Nord and a seperate one in the Axiom. When I sustain the axiom and the Nord simultaneously and then release the Nord pedal, the Panel B sound stops as well despite having the axiom sustain pedal depressed. This seems just crazy to me as I thought in Dual KB mode the 2 keyboards acted independantly in terms of pedals.
All Midi settings on both Panels are set to off apart from MIDI Dual KB, which is set to Channel 1, same as my Axiom. Also, I've set the Nord Midi Prog Change and Midi Ctrl Change to Off.
It's only the sustain pedal release message from the Nord pedal that gets communicated NOT the sustain hold message. This makes no sense to me at all. I've tried loads of configurations and have trawled through the Nord Forum as well as that great midi handbook Toro made (thanks for that).
If you've any words of wisdom or if you can point me in the right direction re: the forum, I'd be hugely greatful. I've 3 shows this weekend and am kinda freaked,
Thanks,
C

Re: NS2 Dual KB sustain pedal issue
Hi C, hmm, tried the same setup on the EX and there it works as I (and you) would expect in the Dual Keyb mode.
So my guess would be a OS bug in the NS2. Have you checkd what message is sent when releasing the Nord Sustain pedal, i.e., on which channel?
IF it really is an OS issue, will be difficult for this weekend I fear. So have you tried not using the Dual Keyb mode, i.e., setting one panel completely to one channel (or OFF) and the other completely to one channel and controlling that from your Axiom? Then selecting both Panels simultaneously but assign the Panel B only to respond to MIDI messages and not the keyboard (by double pressing the ON/OFF buttons of each section).
Might maybe work this way even though I am not 100% sure how seperate the Sustain Pedal really is between panels, maybe the Nord one will also apply to the Panel B.
Other than that, will be difficult.
Cheers

Re: NS2 Dual KB sustain pedal issue
Hey Johannes,
Thanks for the reply. I've tried this (and just re-tried it after reading your post) but still the Nord cuts Panel B's note off that is being sustained by the Axiom pedal.
The midi config's I just tried with Dual KB off is:
Midi Global 1/Off
Midi Slot/Organ/Piano/Synth A all to 1/Off
Midi Slot/Organ/Piano/Synth B all to 2
Dual KB to 3 (It seems when it's set to the same channel as Slot B and the Axiom, the axiom no longer sounds anything)
The result was still the same problem but now the NS2 pedal sustains as well as drops the Panel B notes
When I turned Panel B's patches to No Zone (By double hitting On/Off in each section), the Axiom no longer sounded anything from the Nord
Eeck....

Re: NS2 Dual KB sustain pedal issue
Hallo,
just tried the Dual KB Mode and there is something I miss. With the nord, I use two swellpedal (Organ swell and Control) one sustain and one latch pedal. My second key is a LMK2+. If I change to the Dual KB Mode, I miss the control funktion to morph... does I had to buy the complete set of pedals for the second key?
I´d rather prefer a new item in the systen menue, that allows me to control the sound in the dual KB Mode with the pedals of the nord.
Cheers

To Taxman
Buying more pedals won't solve this problem, I'm afraid - you'll just have to put up with it unless Nord decide to do something about it.
I get round it by using my Stage in Local Off with a MIDI patchbay system, but it's a very complicated solution for a very simple problem, and it's probably not possible for many people.

Re: NS2 Dual KB sustain pedal issue
Got an e-mail back from Nord.
"Sorry about this, it is an unfortunate bug that will be addressed in a future update.
Best regards,

Hopefully the update comes sooner rather than later...

Re: NS2 Dual KB sustain pedal issue
There have to be tons of people having this problem... especially with the sw73 using a second keyboard as a weighted slave. Comon guys...

Re: NS2 Dual KB sustain pedal issue
The workaround for this case is: don't use the Dual Keybd, just drive the Slot B with the Master, this way the NS2 pedals are still active on slot B

That's the same as buying a car with airconditioning and don't use the airco.
I'm using the DualKeyb function because I play the organ with lightweight keys (midi keyboard) because it's not very comfortable playing organ with weighted keys.
