Correct me if I'm wrong: You can use only 1 connection at a time: or USB or MIDI DIN.
You can select this in the midi option menu.

Re: Nord Stage and MIDI tutorial
Hi!
Yesterday I received my Nord Stage 2EX Compact.
Today I try to set it up with my gear.
My setup:
I will (off course) play the EX2 as a separate instrument.
I also have a Arturia Beatstep Pro sequencer and would like the sequencer to be able to play the different EX2 modules (organ, piano and synth).
Hence I have configured the MIDI Organ/Piano/synth to MIDI 7,8 and 9 respectively. I have set the same for both slot a and B.
This works well. I am able to play the EX2 from the Beatstep Pro sequencer by selecting the appropriate MIDI channel om the sequencer.
So far so good.
Then I want to use the EX2 as a midi keyboard to control some external sound moduls I have.
I have several. but for this example, lets keep it simple, and focus on my Waldorf Pulse2 synth.
The Pulse2 is set to MIDI Channel 3. I have used it this way with a Korg x50 keyboard and it works well/ok - meaning I am able to play it.
So I have the following setting:
MIDI Contral Local: On
MIDI Global Channel: MIDI 1
MIDI Slot A Channel: MIDI 3
MIDI Organ A Channel: MIDI 7
MIDI PIano A Channel: MIDI 8
MIDI Synth A Channel: MIDI 9
MIDI Dual Kb Channel: 16
MIDI Ctrl Change Mode Snd&Rcv
MIDI Prog Change Mode: Send
These are stored to A:01:1 Grand Italian Grand
Now playing EX2 with the organ, piano og synth panel on is fine.
Playing the EX2 from the Beatstep 2 is fine.
Switching of the organ, piano and synth panel and playing: no sound (as expected) from neither the EX2 or via the Beatstep pro.
Playing the EX2 with External Panel on and Slot A selected: No sound.
Playing the Pulse 2 with Beatstep Pro and MIDI Channel 3 selected: Sounds perfect.
Why do I not get to play my Pulse2 from the EX2.
What is wrong with my setup?
Thanks.

Re: Nord Stage and MIDI tutorial
Because you at the moment have only the (Global) CH = 1 transmitting, all the others are receive only; you need to use the Extern Section and set it to CH 3 if you want the NS to communicate with your Pulse.
PS: have you downloaded and read the NS Midi Tutorial?

Re: Nord Stage and MIDI tutorial
Thanks, Maxpiano!
When I realized that there was MIDI-settings in not only the MIDI-menu I got it to work.
And thanks for the tip of the Midi Tutorial! I will save that for later.
KInd regards

Re: Nord Stage and MIDI tutorial
I've got a question that I couldn't find when looking over the manual superficially. I'm trying to use my Nord stage 2 ex as a midi input device into sibelius. Sibelius doesn't recognize the nord. Neither does garage band. (Yes, I know. Garage band. Totally corny.) I have a mac, os 10.8.5
Thanks for this manual. I'm going to read it in more detail later. It looks really approachable!
