Works when you change between programs, and it does pretty much what you'd expect it to do, although it was possibly involved in the "silent panel" bug that was fixed in 1.04. It even works if you have an arpeggiating sound, press sustain and change to another program -- it then keeps arpeggiating until you release the sustain pedal (or keys). Also if you change back to the original sound again :-)

So if you were asking how well it works: it does. Or did you have any particular (functional) question in mind?

Does the seamless transition works if you changed to another synth preset within the same program ?
Thanks :)

Just found this video, where the guy switches through the different pianos within one program — they all cut off.

So it's likely that the synth will, too. :(

Sorry, hard to keep up with you guys -- I need to go and check with the board, so I can only reply when next to it here... :-)

Indeed that is the case:

The seamless transition only works between programs. There is no seamlessness between synth patches or when you change the underlying sample in the piano section, as you point out.

The weird thing is that if you press a key and change the underlying sample of the synth, one of two things can happen: In Classic, Wave and F-Wave mode, the new sample basis is used immediately (without retriggering the envelope). In S-Wave and Sample mode, the current sample stays as the basis for currently sounding tones, but any new notes will use the newly selected basis.

If you change between modes, then the same thing happens betwen the Classic, Wave and F-Wave mode as changing sample basis inside the modes. But if you change from F-Wave to S-Wave, the sound will cut of... but if you continue and pass through Sample mode and back to Classic, the tone will continue from where it was but with the basis in the Classic waveform selected. If you start playing an S-Wave, and move through the modes, the 3 first ones will sound as above but when you then get to S-Wave or Sample, you will hear whatever played in that mode before (either S-Wave or Sample).

So I guess S-Wave and Sample both use the same "engine" part that just keeps looping whatever was there before and a new sound is only loaded from the waveform when you play it anew (probably not what happens, but the result is like this). The other 3 modes likely generate their waveforms "on the fly", so when you change it, the effect is instantaneous.

Hi! Please could someone confirm which MIDI CC message Nord Stage 3 sends for Rotary Speed button? Manual says that it is not as on NS2 (CC 82), but I'd like to know are there some real changes?

Thanks!

The rotary speed button sends out MIDI Control 108, as pr. the manual. If the rotary is in stopped mode, the toggle sends out values 0 or 85. If it is in normal mode, it alternates between 43 and 127. So the 3 values told in the OLED display of stopped, slow and fast are really 4 values: stopped, slow, fast-in-slow-mode, fast-in-normal-mode!

... that is, when you enable the global channel. There is another bug in the MIDi implementation, and even if you might have expected the control to follow the transmission mode of the swell pedal (or maybe the sustain pedal) it doesn't. And there is no additional settings to enable/disable the sustain pedal in the device filter panel! Only when using the global channel setting, it is sent: But then it doesn't matter whether you press the button on the board itself, or if you stomp the rotary pedal or (if you couple it to the sustain pedal) jump on the sustain pedal.

(And I also found one more bug today, which makes it around 10 so far from my side...: When you change the external section transmission of pstick and sustped, the pstick LED never lights up and the status shown in the OLED display is slightly misleading).

Thank you @baekgaard!

What do you think, do they made it to put everything on one CC control, or this is a bug? So now, stop button doesn't send any CC message, but only "tells" the rotary speed button to send different values for CC 108?

Thanks again?

Sorry if I was unclear, but the stop button DOES send out a CC 108 message. So in addition to what I said above, when you're in slow mode and press stop, it sends out CC 108 with a value of 0 and when you press it again, it sends out a value of 43. In fast mode the stop button alternates between the values 85 and 127. So it does what it's supposed to.

I think this all makes sense: The controller value somehow reflects the "speed" of the rotary, with 0 indicating stopped, 43 slow and 85/127 the "fast" speed.

An additional remark: You can assign morph to the rotary speed, so that you can select just about ANY speed you want between the stopped and the fast setting. The fast button lights up when you're getting close to the fast speed, but before you eventually are at max. That gives you a lot of control. If you want to control an external unit in the same way, you still need to have it interpret a combination of the CC 108 and the mod wheel values (the CC 108 still sends out the values above, and when you morph, it sends out (as you're expect) the mod wheel values only).

Thanks once again!

I use Crumar Midi Rotary Interface to control Neo Ventilator via MIDI (on Nord Stage 2). It has a preset for Nord Stage 2 CC messages, but I will need to ask them to make one more preset for Nord Stage 3 :-)

Yes, I already got a Stage 3 (http://www.afmusicshop.at) ;)

I don't know which sounds you mean? You can download all samples from http://www.nordkeyboards.com/sound-libraries
Except a very few digital- and layer-category-samples that are already on the Stage 3 but not yet downloadable from Nord. (But i think that will be in their download-section very soon.)
