Hammond organs with internal Reverb on the other hand, would have added reverb to the signal chain going to the Leslie and that would put it pre-leslie.

The 122R does not have any extra speakers. It merely has circuitry that allows installation of a spring reverb into the case. It is still routed to the regular rotor and horn assemblies.

My B3 and A100 have/had (the A100 was destroyed in a fire) spring reverb kits installed.

The default on any classic Hammond is to have the reverb routed through the Leslie.

According to the schematic the 122RV had a separate reverb amp and a single 6x9 speaker.

The RV, yes. The R, no.

Either way, none of the "classic" Leslies - 122, 147, 145, 760 - had a separate reverb channel. It was all through the rotor/horn or nothing.

Right. The variable is then people who want to add reverb not for any way the organ might have sounded coming out of one of those Leslies, but instead want to add "room sound" or a reverb effect that might have been added at the production level in the mix. Musically, any choice can be valid. Though as it is, if you want to add reverb "at the end," you at least still have the option of putting the Nord through a reverb unit. With all the other clones out there (and workstations/synths that have clonewheel engines), I wonder how many process reverb before rotary vs. after, vs. giving you a choice.

I purchased a Leslie 147rv in 1968 the reverb was separate only thru two 6 by 9 speakers on the sides of the cabinet not thru the horns/ rotor
All traditional Leslies I have ever seen for 50 years work like that
It seems most of the comments/ complaints are comming from people that don’t know how a Hammond B3 works or sounds
I paid $4200.00 for a new B3 and Leslie in 1969 so consider a stage 3 a deal these days for a very authentic B3/ Leslie and just about every other sound you can emulate in a package well under 50 pounds
The B3 was 450 pounds and the Leslie another 200
If any of you are that disappointed in the Hammond emulation my B3 and Leslie 122 are in excellent condition in flight cases and can be purchased just let me know

Ok, thanks a lot all of you for all this info. The conclusion should be:
If you want/consider the reverb as something to represent the "room", put it after everything, including the Lesle, knowing that on all usual B3+Leslie configuration there were no Reverb at all.
If you want/consider the Reverb as an internal effect on his own, like delay - and we have both on the C2 - then it makes sense to have it before the final Leslie/speaker....
Ok, so:
1) on a Stage 2, the reverb is after the internal Leslie sim, so, if you add a Neo vent and then don't use the internal sim, your choice will be "Rev before Neo/Vent Leslie" or "Just Neo Vent Leslie with no Reverb", if you turn Reverb down....right? Anyone who is happy with that? I man someone who is using the Neo Vent with no Reverb or Reveb before it?
2) On a C2, because the Reverb is before the internal Sim, With a Neo Vent, the choice will be the same, " Rev before Neo/Vent Leslie" or "Just Neo Vent Leslie with no Reverb", right?
3) And if you still want the Reverb to be after the Leslie, with your Neo Vent (and thus with the Internal Sim shut down...), you will have to use any "Hall of fame" pedal as someone proposed?
4) Ditto for the Stage 3, right?
Sorry to ask, I would like to buy a Neo Vent but would like to make sure that I know how I could use it with my current Stage 2, my C2 and my future Stage 3.
Sincerely

Sorry, your discussion is great, but either way I really like to have my sound of B3 on NS3 much reverbed and without any rotation in the reverb, how it is perfectly possible on Hammond XK-1c for example. And the spring reverb it should be also. :-) I don't like so much (so far) hearing rotary on reverb and it got nothing to do with principal construction of B3, Leslie or any other instrument. Spring reverb on the organ is just beautiful but with no rotary in it. Thank you and I hope some update will bring the possibility to ON/OFF rotation on the reverb...

Could anyone with a NS2 test this pls ?
I seem to recall, when I requested Clavia for a choice (reverb before or after Leslie) I found out that the NS2 behaved the same way as the NS3 wrt. reverb (and even delay?).
But it was not so pronounced as in the NS3, which makes the reverb sound much more "swirly".

The main issue is that reverb is for a panel so you can't switch it off for organ and it's effect is so "heavy" that all sounds get a bit of that rotary effect.

Just try it with a lot of reverb combining organ and piano and/or synth.
You'll hear what I mean :shifty:

No. The reverb on the Stage 2 is always post.

I meant the classic Leslies, as in “those ubiquitous models everybody thinks of when you mention the name” - specifically the 122, 147, 145, and 760.

There are plenty of others with a separate reverb channel, but how often do you see an 822 or a 925 on a classic Hammond?

I always use either a Neo Vent or a Motion Sound R3-147. The Neo sounds great, but the R3-147, with its actual rotating horn, not only sounds, but feels, great. Reverb is added after the Leslie to simulate a room. Different reverb (or reverb settings) on each instrument can be used to simulate locations of different instruments on a stage. Reverb before the Leslie is an affect, like echo or flanger. Useful at times, but not natural.
