Not necessarily, e.g. if you adopt a USB3 interface  but 1TB makes really no sense and I think that, together with some of the other wishes here, it seems to push the Nord Stage into the Workstation territory, to which it does not belong imo.

Probably SetLists, larger display and 2-3 layer (at least) velocity switching/crossfading .nsmp Samples would still be good enhancements to have. Arbitrary split point capability (having a led strip instead of individual leds, so that any point can be highlighted, same as NI Kontrol does) and ability to extend PB range are other extension I'd value.

Ability to trigger arpeggiator start with the pressing of a key. Since it`s not possible now, I have to bypass that by sending MIDI start signal to NS.

@hsir;
Yes, good idea for the reverb per slot but sometimes, a general reverb is ok, I concur with Spider, it's a stage/live product. Even in your home studio, using too many different reverbs is unproductive compared to one genral reverb...For more layers for the samples, sometimes, when I play alone preparing a song, the brasses seem a little bit unatural, those from the XV5080 as well, but when I play it live, everyone tell me "whooa, how good the brass was...". Same thing for the pan feature or the pitchbend, we have so many threads about people playing mono versus stereo that a pan might not even be heard live...
For piano and sample memory, I was disapointed to see that I was not able to load all the samples I wanted and not to have all the piano, but finally, I'm not even using all the samples that are loaded and with the 2 XL piano that I have, I'm ok, in fact...
In fact, I have enough other gear to compliment the few weaknesses of the Stage 2 and sometime, it's even a question of which one will play which part, so, I might not be the best to propose updates for the Stage 2...
My concern is that now in Canada it's 5000 CAN$, I paid mine in January 2011 4000 CAN$ and it starts to be very expensive, if you put more and more and make it a big "do it all/Stage/Workstation/best VA/best Real Analog etc...you will have a keyboard that will be out of the market pricewise...

I think a touch pad like a built in kaoss pad would be cool.

I just saw two NS2ex'es being put up for sale at almost the same time. It's not like there are any new rumours about NS3? Or maybe a competitor?

You pay $4000 for a stage board and you can only load less than
400mb of samples. That seems absurd. You don't agree?

No I don't, for technical reasons:
The Nords play (AFAIK - please correct if anyone knows better) straight from permanent (flash) memory. That can't be compared with PC style DRAM (the typical "modern" workstation has a PC architecture) where you need to preload memory contents.
The Stage 2 EX is fully awake 13 seconds from power-on, the Nord Electro takes about 17 secs (and I hope they'll speed this up still).
Maybe someone has numbers for competing PC style architecture keyboards, but I doubt it'll be anywhere close.

Thank you for pointing this out. Many users do not understand that the memory used in a Nord is very expensive flash memory and cannot in any way be compared with PC memory found in most workstations. Here is a Kronos X 2.0 booting up:

Heh... a proper USB 2.0 implementation would already help a bit...
E.g FTDI 2232H
480 MBit/s = 16 bits at 30 MHz = 60 MBytes / second => minutes for a full backup. Getting the data through USB is not the problem if I have a USD 10 hardware budget.

Here's a question; Nord are popular for the backward compability their boards have. Samples released today can still be played on an E4. Samples released in 2013 could still be played on the old Stage,
Etc...
If they were to implement a new sample format with multiple velocities per layer for a new Stage model do you think an update for the Stage 2 Ex would allow them to be played? Maybe it would take up more memory, but you would think in keeping with tradition new sounds (though not necessarily new progammes) would be backwards compatible? I'm picking up a Stage 2 EX this week, and while my Roland compliments it's weaknesses, I always loved that my E4 was compatible with all of the latest sounds Nord released. Would like to have the same confidence with the S2.

In terms of a Stage 3 (I hate this topic, according to the internet the Stage 3 has been one year away since 2014!), I don't think they could add a whole lot more sonically - not because Nord aren't creative, just because the Stage 2 is so good! Just functionality and ease of use things. Updated Organ, fine, but a mini-Vent II will get me an even better sounding organ from the Stage 2 than the C2D has. More layering capability maybe, an extra arpeggiator. Short of them releasing a dual manual weighted-on-bottom semi-weighted-on-top monster Stage 3, I can't think of anything that would make me personally begrudge buying a Stage 2 this week. The Stage2 has so many genius little features, and too often we see keyboard companies get rid of overlooked handy features on old keyboards in favour of 'updated' features on the new board, though I doubt Nord would do this.

Probably they'll crucify me if no one stones me first. But, I would wait until Musikmesse. Just saying what I'd do :)
That said, it'll always sound exactly like on the day when you took it from the box. But, having too many obsolete keyboards in my own basement, the concern is very valid, IMHO.

Of course we're all hoping for backwards compatibility, sometimes I think it's more a political than a technical question (because the "overhead" that comes even with a simple change can be a killer). Multiple velocities have already been supported for a long time, but I wouldn't expect any feature to be back-ported that has dedicated lights on the front panel (e.g. STRING RES).

Nord has cut down the clavinet model on the NE5, and some people aren't happy with the clean rotary sound (me not among them, I love it).
I would evaluate every new product generation like a completely new instrument, forget everything you know about its predecessors. Again, I've made that very same mistake going from Y. S80 to Motif rack, assuming the piano should be at least as good...
