I'm one of the fortunate ones who've got my hands on the new stage 3. Now I'm trying to set up the extern section to switch patches on my Fantom x6, but without wanting to send note data from the Stage, that is, I don't want to trigger the external sound, only a patch change.
I have put in the bank and program data and tried to switch all zones off on extern section. I can get the Fantom to switch patch but no matter what I do, the Stage also sends note data. If I set up a split zone on the extern, however, it respects this and only plays in one area.
I have made this work in my previous setup with a Yamaha S90 as master, so I'm wondering if this is a bug in the current software. Unfortunately I don't have my other keyboards at home at the moment, so I'm not able to try a different setup.
Can any of you fellow Stage 3 make this work and if so, what am I doing wrong?

Re: Nord stage 3 extern section bug?
Manual Page 41:
NON-KEYBOARD EXTERN SEtUP
In addition to the regular keyboard zones, there is an extra option - selected the same way as regular keyboard zones - that doesn’t assign the Extern section to the internal keyboard at all, signified by all KB ZONE LEDs being off for the Extern section. However, all other External features are still active, such as the Pitch Stick and the Parameter knob. this is useful when you want to control external equipment with no need for MIDI keyboard messages.
You could try to press SHIFT and the KeyZoneSelect Button.

Thanks for the suggestion. This is actually what I've already tried, but it seems that the Stage is still transmitting midi note data despite all KB Zone LEDs being off. This is why I'm wondering if it's a bug in the software.

Check the global channel on the Stage 3. This transmits and receives midi data including note on/off and could be the cause your problem.

I've set Global and panel A/B to off but still no luck.

Re: Nord stage 3 extern section bug?
What is your slave kbd MIDI Channel? Make it match the EXTERN MIDI channel.
Is the slave in Omni-ON mode? (i.e. responding to ANY channel?)

I've set both the Stage and slave to Midi channel 12 and the slave is set to only receive program change and bank select. I've set remote keyboard switch to off which is the equivalent to Omni mode. If I change the midi channel on either of the devices there is no sound (and no patch change).
So this should not be the problem. That's why I'm thinking it might be related to the software in the Stage.
Has anybody with a Stage 3 been able to set this up?

It might be an idea to check with a MIDI monitor what is really going out of the NS3 MIDI output, just in case.

Good idea. I'll try to do that. Only problem is that I use a midi cable to connect to my Fantom X and would have to use a USB cable to connect to my Mac to use monitor software since I don't have a midi interface.
Do you think that there's a difference?
Again have anyone with a Stage 3 got this working ?

Re: Nord stage 3 extern section bug?
I do not think that would help. You need to connect the MIDI output that goes to the Fantom to the MIDI monitor so you know what is that the Fantom receives with your current setup.
