Nord Stage 3 Compact vs HP76

Postby Jo Osantos1 » 17 Aug 2017, 21:57

Hello all guys,
So, here's the thing... My Nord Stage 3 Compact is taking so long to arrive, that my dristribuitor proposses me the HP76 for the same price as the 73 Keys Model.
So, with this said, thoose are my questions:

-Hammer action with Hammond playing, is really that hard?
-Does the buttons instead of the Drawbars have any advantages? (PS: im kinda of afraid that the button become broken with the usage)
-Does the Hammer action interfears with clavinet playing?

Re your second question, I think it is more likely that a drawbar could break (from some physical impact) than a button (found on the HP76) could break.

But I assume there was a valid reason why you chose the Stage 3 Compact, including its waterfall keyboard. I am not hearing that you have changed your mind about what you want. If this is the case, I would suggest that you steer clear of a substitution.

I have tried playing organ on the 76HP and it just doesn't work...period. It was easier playing on the 88 key HA than the HP. The 76 HP is very sluggish, it's OK for AP and EP but if you only play even a fair amount of organ
do yourself a favor and stick with the compact 73. I'm going with the compact, for me it will be a great all in one keyboard for what I do.

Cheers

1. Depends what you're trying to do. As I mentioned in another thread, you can play "Light My Fire" on a hammer action just fine. But if you play with advanced organ techniques, a hammer action (esp. a slower/heavier feeling one like the HP) may make some things impossible, or may make some things painful to the point of bleeding.

2. Buttons have the advantage of automatically being in sync with any recalled preset. However, for an organ player who manipulates the drawbar sound while playing, it may be impossible to create the desired effects. So again, the viability of that implementation depends on the organ techniques you employ.

3. I think it would impede clav playing as well. Again, it depends on the technique/playing styles you use. And again, the HP would be worse than the HA. I think a real clav feels kind of in between a SW and a HA Nord, but nothing like an HP.

So on the new stage 3 - the action on the 76 is different than on the 88? That's strange.

The 76 hp on the NS2 ex is also different from the NS2 ex 88.

On the stage 2 ex i know there's a difference.
Is it also confirmed regarding the stage 3?
And if so, what's the difference in feel? The 76 version is more stiff, slugish and harder to press in comparison with the 88 version?

It should feel the same with both HP model.
Clavia always make amelioration but the review of the NS2EX should be close enough to the NS3.

What anotherscott said. My NS3 will be on the top tier to do primarily organ/synth/horn duty and occasionally clav/harpsichord parts. I'm too used to having drawbars with my past B3 clone and current NE5D, to not go with the Compact.

I of course have not touched any of the Stage 3 products as yet, but I will at least assume that the Stage 2 EX HP76 and Stage 3 HP76 will still use the same action. So yes you can certainly hold organ cords, but you will NOT be doing any quick repeats, or trilling of notes on the HP 76 action. The 88 HA action actually responds better to fast organ lead playing than the HP 76, but the Compact 73 is your best bet for comfortable all around organ playing.
Personally the Stage 3 Compact had me at "DRAWBARS" all the other improvments will just be icing on the cake.
