Nord Stage 2 polyphony or CPU overloading problem

Postby art507 » 24 Feb 2017, 23:02

Hi !
I have a Nord Stage 2 for 2 years already , but just now I found a strange problem. It is about the Synth Section .
For example:
I use the both KB zones A and B . There are a Strings sound in the left part and a synth sound in the right. I use a sustain pedal for both sound at the same time .
At one moment during the playing I can hear a strange high frequency noise from the Strings sound .
I think it could be the polyphony limit ( 18 voices ) .
But usually my Nord Stage 2 worked without this noise , and in the case of polyphony limitations it disappeared the first note , then the second with every additional voice. And now appears this noise ...
Could it be the CPU overloading ?
Anyone has the same problem ?

P.S. Sorry for my English)

Did you make sure it's not the resonant-knob of the filter?

I don't think what you hear has anything to do with polyphony or CPU "overload" at all.
Maybe it is just because you are playing and sustaining too many notes which create an excessive "sum" over that frequency, in some conditions?

I am sure that it wasn't a resonant noise, because of the resonance closed. I had a similar noise with thу Access Virus during the chords arpeggiator playing. Therefore I think that it was the CPU overloading.

And the "sum" is a very high frequency, it doesn't seems to be a frequency crossing.

Why don't you record that and post it here, maybe also the patch you are using?

This is the video.
It's a strings sample. After 2':00 minutes I have changed the sample, but another little noise can be heared at the High Frequency Range(02:17 ,with the headphones)

probably it's a sample with high noise-amount and if you play many and some specific notes the noise adds to this hearable effect…
maybe you have mod-env or lfo set to the filter, and if you don't hit the notes hard, the filter is not completely open, so there is no noise, but if you hit it hard, it opens and noise will come

or you have anoter synth-engine with very very low attack or something that produces noise ;)

Is it like the polarity of the sustain pedal is reversed on one of the slots?

I didn't usу any mod env to the filter parameter and other filters. All the parameters set to the initial value (except the FREQ which is the maximum).
The problem also is that I can't understand what action exactly affect to the noise and in what moment. I can play the same notes with the sustain pedal during 15 min and then suddenly the noise appears. Thats why I thought about the CPU problem or some mechanical issue.
